Aggressive reds...Finally!

Fished out of Steamboat in the N.E. today and yesterday evening, and even though the water has cooled slightly with these cooler mornings, the reds have finally decided to chase down reaction-type lures consistantly. Yesterday evening, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits were the ticket in the grass, while today, shallow cranks and top waters produced through noon as the tide pulled out of the grass. At that point, the tide was ripping out, wind started blowing SW, and the water muddied pretty much on the entire main river. Caught 9 between 5-8pm yesterday and 30+ today before noon. Several fish were in the 30-35inch range with most being caught sight-fishing topwaters. Only 1 trout on top in the last 2 days. Hope better things will come later as their spawning activities increase.

Thanks for the report RAD

He must Increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30

I’m still learning to fish for reds. I grew up on the freshwater fishging for largemouths, and loved throwing spinner and buzz baits.
You’re telling me a red will go after these?

jrsticks, RADDADDY And his son are in NC practicing for the next redfish tournament, so I’ll answer for him. Reds will hit just about any moving bait. We catch 'em on Scum Frogs.

Thanks for the info Bob. I actually have a moss boss (somewhat similar) in the tackle box. I’ll give the scum frogs a try. Also, I checked out your site and read the article on Joshua Bell. What an amazing story with an awesome moral.
