Almost skunked Saturday

Only saw three boats Saturday from broad river to Gov. Dock and one was a crabber. Beautiful day and if not for getting a couple bushels of oysters would have been toatly skunked. Not one bite, even tried some fiddlers and fresh oysters for sheep head and nothing!

Matter of fact, did not mark anything to speak of on the depth finder?

Beautiful day though! Could see bait down to 6 feet, super clear water.

G8rnsc & I struggled Friday Fred, with only 1 27" redfish to show for 1/2 day on the water.

We found plenty of fish on the low water but they would not eat. Did some better on the incoming fishing the marsh banks along the Chechessee. Key was to fish way ahead of the boat and continue to move up the river when the bite quit. No bites on Mud Minnows, Gulp shrimp on a 1/4 jig head dead sticked in the marsh as far ahead of the boat as a strong arm could cast. We would ease along slowly with the trolling motor until we noticed the fish pushing grass ahead of the boat, power pole down and double arm cast as far as possible.

I was actually shocked at the lack of boats on the water for such a beautiful day!

Wildlife, what did you get your red on?

Thanks for the input fishing coach. We used mud minnows and gulps as well. (new penny)

What really upset me was a deep drop with some squid that has always got me something… nothing this time… oh well.

I went out Saturday morning on the Coosaw and had one bite on a mud minnow. Didn’t land it unfortunately. I’m kind of relieved to hear its not just me having a hard time lately. Hopefully this weekend will bring more nice weather and better luck.

Fished Sunday Morning to evening. Saw two schools, mostly smaller reds with a few 24" mixed in. limited out, but it took three trips to the same school over several hours. We would have to leave them completely alone for over an hour, come back to the area and do like Coach said, just cast and cast along the bank until they either moved or you got a strike.

All things being equal, I would rather be on the water.

Thanks for reports. I do not feel so bad as to our no-catch trips. Went out with newlyweds Steven Page and his beautiful wife, Evan on Saturday, leaving the dock at 7:00am. Chased some reds in Calibogue which would not eat. It was so nice we went nearshore to Sav. Rockpile and Whitewater looking for some bull reds. No luck fishing on structure at both locations with large jigs . We searched a large area looking for flocks of feeding gannets. Only found a few scattered, very lazy gannets taking it easy- probably just having signed up for Obomocare. It was fun getting out on such a nice day anyhow. With temps going up ( except for today) things should get better and better.

Mine came on a mud minnow on the bottom just sitting. My son Ryan went Sunday afternoon…testing out his new to him old boat with no trolling motor. Borrowed two rods and some muddies from me and fished near high falling and caught 3 up to 23" and lost another 4 he, his girlfriend and his buddy could not turn. Maybe I need to go with them…sheesh!. He used mud minnows under a cork.
