Yesterday in 3 hours I observed a half dozen brand new boats run across the jetties at mid tide, Sea Foxes, Edgewaters, and a sportsman. Then there was the guy trolling thru all the boats at the grillage with light tackle getting caught up in anchor lines. The best part was the lady that almost ran me into the bridge and then shaking her head at me like I was in the wrong. PORT TO PORT PEOPLE.
I’m in favor of some kind of boating test for people nowadays. It’s dangerous out there and won’t be getting any better.
End of rant, everyone have a great holiday weekend,
Frits, blindfold your clients until you get anchored up…I had a buddy who used to do this when going to his “super secret stingray hole”.
Always worked for him…

^ Absolutely. Why is it you have to pass a comprehensive test and have to go through a period of restrictive/supervised access when you get your licence for a car or aircraft but yet anyone can go out and buy a boat and hit the water. The same should go for small paddle craft also.
Also, lets get bilingual “NO WAKE” signs posted on all of our waterways. Yesterday two (spanish speaking) guys were racing through the no wake zone on Murray near Acapulco landing with their jet skis.
And while we’re at it, lets get some type of training requirements set up for bicycles, mopeds, four wheelers, etc., so that they atleast know the traffic rules and regulations, before they get on our busy city streets and roads.

Is it possible to do that? They ran across the rocks at a place where were submerged?
Pretty scary stuff-those jetties have claimed many a craft over the years!!!

Left Whapoo yesterday at 6:00 AM. Was dreading the return. Got to the ramp around 2:30 and the boat ramp god was shining on me. Pulled right up dropped one guy to get the truck and we were out without a wait. Now i know why. They were all trying to sink their boats at the jetties.
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

IMHO, “NO Wake” signs generally do more harm than good. Less experienced boats go from WOT to half speed plow throwing three times the wake they would if they continued at cruising speed.
Experience and respectful boaters watch their wake and are careful not to damage other peoples property or endanger other boats. A sign doesn’t fix the problem for those that don’t care about their fellow man.
How many boat collisions do we have each year compared to automobile collisions?
Happenstance has it, that at least one person out there is paying attention. How many times have you been on course only to have another boat steer directly into your course or path after you’ve run a straight line for miles and they expect you to alter course. And you do to avoid a collision. Happens to me more than it should.

And then they look at you and shake their head like you are a effin idiot.
I like how the haters come out in this thread and tell me to fish somewhere else. That isn’t what this thread is about,
If you want to bash me for fishing the jetties for big redfish then so be it. When a paying customer tells you they want to " Go catch those big redfish like last time" then you accommodate, regardless of what day it is
I definitely wasn’t bashing, Fritz, I understand that you’re out there making a living. I was speaking of all the other people who only seem to make it out on the holiday weekend and think that the only place to fish is the jetties or the grillage. I personally avoid those places on those weekends because of all the clueless people, but since I guess I worded my response the wrong way, you took it as bashing and had to come back with a snarky comment as usual. At least some things never change.
It sounds like you guys are trying to write laws to teach common courtesy. I’m not sure that is a good approach. Are you sure you are attacking this problem correctly?
The legal system is not to make people act polite.
The bottom line is we don’t need something like this. There really aren’t that many boating accidents out there in the grand scheme of things. Do you really want to go to the DMV every 4 years to renew your “boater’s license”? I would find that an extreme pain in the ass.
Don’t get me wrong, there is enough volume of cars on the road to justify something like this, but if you step back and look at things from an objective point of view, there really isn’t enough need for something like a mandatory boater’s license on the water.
