Go to lake lanier just north of Atlanta on a holiday weekend(or any summer weekend). You have literally got to watch 360 degrees around you at all times. The 44ft sea rays crews around throwing the biggest wakes possible so that the jet ski riders can jump them.
I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.
As long as we are on the subject of idiots, can we discuss boat ramp etiquette? PLEEZ folks. There is NO REASON to spend more than 5 minutes on a boat ramp; And that’s if you are by yourself or the only capable person that can drive a car. If there are 2 plus adults launching 1 boat, you should spend less than 1 minute on the ramp. Otherwise, get the H$%L out of the way so others can launch. There is a reason they have “MAKE READY” areas at the ramp. DON"T BLOCK THE RAMP IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO LAUNCH! My 13 year old daughter is capable of backing the boat off the trailer and docking up.
I was at sol lagare ramp last weekend, while i was waiting in line an old mercedes drove through the left lane and parked in the dirt turn around spot. when i pulled up behind him/her i hit the horn and they waved for me to pull around, since i couldn’t i laid on the horn, they flicked me off and moved up about 5 feet where i could clear the turn. Rarely have i been that p*ssed at the ramp.
^^^ You’re asking an awful lot there. With some people, common sense seems to disappear when launching a boat or using the make ready areas. I typically fish alone,(well with my dog) on Lake Murray. I usually put in at the dam ramp. It probably takes me 5-6 minutes to get the boat in the water, tie up to the dock and get back to my truck.

Drive around all day in a patrol car and work the accidents. You aint seen nothin yet, brother. By the way, bicycles are expected to follow all traffic laws as they are given the right to occupy a lane of traffic. I have ticketed several idiots on bikes for running red lights and stop signs among other things.

I’ve put in there many times, and it’s one on those ramps that has a long dock that is not all that close to the ramp. Again, if you are by yourself, it will obviously take a little longer in some locations, and that is perfectly understandable. The classic idiot will race you to the ramp and then start unloading equipment, coolers, etc. and block the ramp for over 10 minutes. More times than not, there are 2-4 adults per boat. Again, in this scenario with multiple adults, you should only be on the ramp less than 1 minute! I have utilized public ramps in NC many times, and it amazes me the number of times park rangers and NCDNR have been at the ramps guiding folks through ramp etiquette. I have never seen this ANYWHERE in SC.

And when it is dark and you are backing in, please turn off your headlights. it makes it difficult for others to back in when they are on.
There is nothing about boating on Lanier that is even remotely relaxing to me, unless it’s between 2am and 8am. I like to go further north and boat in the Chattahoochee just north of where it empties into Lanier. It is nice up there. I’ve grown to loathe jet skis.
Thanks for the tip about the headlights. I have probably been guilty of this in the past due to ignorance, but now I know better.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
Leeds ave ramp. Evening time when everyone is trying to get home. Ramp is full as usual but not crazy. I wait to back down. A woman is giving it her all, taking her time and doing a good job of getting the trailer lined up and backed down the ramp. Took a few attempts but with some directions she got it.
I go around her and dunk the trailer. Walk back to the boat and idle into the que.
A wakeboard boat tied up inside the ramp area. Usually this isnt a big problem but they were about 25 feet from the end of my trailer. Leaves me 5ft of clearance. No one made any attempt to move their boat even though all three are standing there watching what turned into a 15 min loading.
Another boat (racer) is tied up on the other dock inside of the ramp. Also about half way down the dock. Again not leaving much room to maneuver with a moving tide.
Back to the lady. She is backed down and ready. Guy idles the boat in and hits the trailer sideways. Backs up turns, cant get straight, no room to manuver because of the other idiots with their boats tied up too close to the ramp.
Then to add insult to injury the racer boat owner starts directing the other guy to “help” get his boat on the trailer. Ok, but why didnt he just move the racer back 2 cleats? Anyways, everyone on the ramp is watching now. Waiting for this guy to smash into something. He pulls out of the load area and moves back in trying a different angle. Didnt work, still had to parallel park around the racer boat. Racer boat owner is now on the guys trailer trying to “catch” him. This plays out for a while. All 3 lanes are occupied.
They finally get his boat settled enough I can get around him.
Now I get to parallel park around this wake board boat. Loaded right up, though had to nose into the guide-ons because the other boat was in the way. All of whom were standing right next to the truck watching, waiting, but doing nothing to help the situation.
So I ask, why didnt the Racer and wakeboard owners just pull their boats back 2 cleats? I have seen the racer
I could sit back with a case of beer and watch people at public boat ramps. Its always quality entertainment.
We usually stop and gawk at the ramp follies on our way back to the house when we are out in the boat. Wappoo is by far the best in general for quantity of entertainment.
Raddaddy, a lot of cars or trucks have a override button next to the light switch. Then again most people don’t bother to play with things to see what they do. I hate the ones riding around with the driving lights on as well as the head lights.

Yeah, like the NCDNR officer trying to tell me how to load my boat, including, and I quote, “just trim it up” as I’m loading a straight inboard Shamrock. He sure was quiet when I responded by telling him it’s an inboard, thanks, but I didn’t ask for nor do I need your advice. Sometimes it’s best they shut up and get out of the way before the show their true ignorance. It actually took telling him it’s an inboard more than once before he realized inboards can’t “just trim up”.
