looking for some good anchor ideas. The little grappling hook I got don’t cut it unless its got something to get snagged on.
Lots of options really, and it may depend on the bottom and tides that you are anchoring in. I have an old mushroom anchor that holds pretty well anywhere. I think nikonjedi may have used an old barbell for a while. You can go expensive with cajun anchor styles, expensive or cheap stake out poles, or pour cement into a small container and make your own.

I still use the dumbell it’s purple and I have bright pink line for it
who would steal it right
it works great for the rivers and sounds where there is pluff mud. I also have a mushroom anchor for sandy spots. Too Busy uses a soda can and pours lead into it. Add some tiny re-bar and make a little grappling hook action and your probably set anywhere. I know a few guys who have cajun anchors and swear by them. i am just too cheap to drop the ducks on what I can make at home. I like making my own stuff… more fun and I usually get exactly what I want. Everyone I know who uses those folding claw anchors hate 'em though… Look around your garage you’ll find an anchor that’ll work. Another Idea I had was taking a laundry soap bottle and tying off to the handle. When you get out fill it with water, achor out and when yer done empty it out and now there is no extra weight to paddle around. Those bottles come in a few different sizes… Good luck Brother.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I like the water in the jug idea. I have been using my paddle as a stick in the mud. I think I am heading up to Bulow this afternoon and catch the last of hte incoming. I’se seen lots of action but yet to hook up. Purdy place anyway

Stake out pole, homemade. If that’s what you need.
Go to Lowes/Home Depot. Buy 1/2" electrical conduit, 5 to 7 feet depending on your need, for about $2.00. Get a hammer and pound one end until it’s flat. Drill a hole for rope on the other end (I use 550 cord w/inner string removed to make it thinner).
Done. Total cost under three bucks.

Jimmy Buffett can have Margaritaville, I’m going to Redfishville!
any chance I could get introduced to this “redfishville”?
RW
I’d like to know about this place myself. So far my kayak fishing is bust.
There is no such thing as redfishville.
I use a five pound plate (weight lifting weight). This one has multiple holes in it and holds pretty good. I normally anchor upstream from wherever I want to go, then just periodically give the anchor line a tug and drift down a few yards to fish the next spot.

Run your anchor line thru a padeye at the stern then thru a jam cleat by the cockpit coming and it makes anchoring and raising the anchor a one handed operation, can pull the anchor up tight to the stern pad eye so it dosen’t drag in water.
If any of ya’ll need to attach anything to yaks I got a few rivet guns with special milled tips on em for the blind cherry rivets so they snap off flush.

Well, I am from Beaufort, so I would not be stealing the spot on a daily basis. I was just curious, everyone talks about it so much. But, someone already let the cat out of the bag.
Hey Ken… A bud of mine let me in on a little secret. there was a solo redfish tourney a few days ago. Boats went to the intercoastal, Wando, Cooper… I believe only one went to Ashley. Guess who won with 2 nice slotties???
a crowded fishing spot is like a crowded surfing spot. I’d rather go elsewhere. I do both things to get away from people.

I hear ya Cut… i have seen MONSTER and good numbers of reds in the Ashley, jumped quite a few right near cosgrove but have yet to catch one The ville has cooled down a bit… I am gonna hit the Stono on Saturday afternoon methinks…

Guys as I have said my opinion is the more we can help new people catch fish the better it is for the fishing community. I understand the want to keep your secret little tiny one boat spots a secret, but everyone should be willing to help direct new people towards general area’s for the fun of reeling in big fish. As long as everyone obeys the laws there will still be plenty of fish in your super secret spot that prodeces record breaking fish everyday that nobody every see’s. Those fish are there for a reason and it will continue to attract more fish.
For myself I havent been to redfishville, but I was told it is in coopahee sound (or however you spell it). There is a road off 17 that goes all the way down and ends at a mud creek at low tide and water at high tide that can be used to paddle in to copahee. I dont know the excat spot but I am sure with some scouting you can find this self named redfishville. Once the kings are gone offshore again I will go looking for it.
If you have had no luck catching fish with your yak, try shem creek. Go to the public boat launch, grab some live menhadens in a cast net, the smaller the better. Go up the creek… not out. Fish the live menhadens on the bottom near the docks and the oysters beds on a moving tide. Be prepared to hook into some big reds and be broken off some. When hooked work quick to keep the reds away from the docks. If you get the reds to the boat and they are not in slot size do the community a favor, follow the laws and throw them back. Lots of out of slot reds in shem.
Good luck,
OE
Way up shum crick has always been good on the incoming. Avoid the boat landing if possible and ask permission from Mt. Pleasant seafood to use their access. They will also weigh and measure your fish.

Hey Cut, that would be Capt Jody Tucker I do believe…
