Russ B. Robert Strange, Jack and I pulled away from St. Johns a little after 4AM on Friday morning headed to fish deep at the 380 Hole. The seas were much calmer for the ride out than they were last Saturday, and we had lines in before 7AM. The action was fast to happen as the first line was zinging with a 30 pound plus bull on before we even had the second line out. I fought the bull to the boat with Russ ready to gaff and Robert already with his hand on the leader when “POP,” the line goes slack to the point I nearly fell off the transom! Turns out the swivel broke! I pulled in my bottom lip:face_with_head_bandage:, and we continue setting lines when all the sudden we have another decent mahi on. Robert gets the fish to the boat and into the box quickly.
Soon, we have another single hit, and I grab the rod as I’m closest to it to fight the fish with a determination of getting this one into the box. I get the fish to the boat only to watch it start jumping. Although pretty to watch a jumping dolphin, I hate to see it happen as that’s when the fish can spit the hook. And, that’s exactly what this sucker did all the while looking me directly into the eye as he did it. I had planted myself more firmly this time as I had no desire to have another close call with falling off the boat!
We had to work hard to clear lines of all the scattered weed out there, but the morning action continued as Robert fought another 30 pound plus fish to the boat with probably that much weed wrapped around the line. Holding our breaths that the line wouldn’t get frayed, we watched Russ ready to gaff the fish at the boat. Unfortunately, the line popped, and a third fish swam away…
Sticking my bottom lip in, I reminded myself that losing fish is part of the game even when nothing is done wrong. We continued fishing the 380 hole and put 10 more dolphin in the fish box all the time clearing the lines of all the weed out there. At 345 we decided to head to the Ledge where we found a small formed weedline. We immediately put anot
Definitly was another stellar day offshore on the Andi Pi! Awesome teamwork by the entire crew and Capt. got it done again. The triple at the end of the day with the big bull was a great ending to another great day on the pond with great folks and reveling in all His wonders of the deep.

Yall are on a ROLL!! Congrats on the great day!! We need to tag team them at some point. Heck if nothing else come to Manning we will eat some of those blue crabs I keep hearing about and cook up some fish!
Great day and that is a slob of a dolphin!!
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
Well, I'd not seen that before, let alone drag the "flopper" by the feet to get the fish to the box! I'm still giggling! Robert was such the trooper, too! GREAT ending to a GREAT day!
And, Scott, I do think we should get together soon to share fish, crabs and stories - in Manning or here! That would be a fun gathering! Hope we’ll do it this year!
Congrats on a great day. But I must say, lines don’t pop for no reason. That should never happen on a dolphin. Y’all need to check your line, knots, drag, etc. Something ain’t right.
Short grass and tight lines, make a man feel so fine!

I agree line dont just pop. Look at your knots and your line real good. I always check mine. If there is a worn spot or nicks I change out what is nicked up.
Good going on getting on the fish again.
Going to Church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.
You are the offspring of 5 monkeys having But Secs with a retarded fish squirrel. CONGRADULATION!!!

We had some smaller sized Spro snap swivels with the split rings on them versus the welded rings, we discovered that the rings weren’t holding at all and would just open up. Changed out to welded rings after we discovered that. One fish chafed thru a (ahem) mono leader as well.
