Wondering if anyone was at Shem landing right after dark last night and saw a truck drop a boat off the trailer. I let a buddy of mine take my Whaler 15’ sport out and got a text this morning saying it fell off the trailer when he was parking it at his house. His story seemed a little fishy to me cause this would be real hard to do just parking it. All the signs look like he didn’t lock the winch when he loaded it on the trailer. The bunks are all messed up now and it’s not sitting on its rollers. The handle for the winch is bent somehow and the plastic is broken off the handle. Things aren’t adding up and I thought someone had to have seen it happen if it was at Shem.
Truly hate that for u dude. I hope he’s on a position too make it right and that the friendship is strong enough to remain intact after its all said and done. True friendships are a precious thing and are sometimes tested, its a real shame when the test is more than the relationship can bear.

He came right out and said he would take care of all damages. Just for the sake of “friendship” wanted to see if anyone witnessed otherwise.

Dang you were harsh on biggerthanyours for saying the truth. I’d say what he said was useful. Actually more than useful.
I lesson I’ve learned, never ever loan your boat, car, atv, tractor, backhoe, excavator, etc, to a friend that you want to stay friends with. It never seldom ends good.
If you ever lend anything (specially money) to a friend do it with the intent to never expect it back. That way you can keep the friend and be even happier when the friend returns the loaned item.
Fred, let me add something to you’re list! Never rent a Condo/house/property, to a relative/inlaw/friend. If you do, make them go through a management company and step back from it.
So sorry for coming off harsh, but I did not see all the hidden life lessons in the response

Definitely more than useless info there.I have had more positive experiences from being a generous friend than I have had bad.Come to think about it, I have only had one other bad experience lending something out. The person in question had previously never given me any reason to doubt his story. Actually he was kind enough to lend me his Land Rover when my wife’s vehicle was in the shop several months ago. When I lent him my tiller, he tilled a plot that I had been talking about doing while we were in Florida and the tiller was cleaner than it was before. Lend out a bow and I get free venison. I thought that’s what friends do. Sounds like you guys are projecting your life experiences into this. If that is the case than your either a bad judge of character and/or don’t have very good friends.
I gave him a list of repair supplies and he picked them up today and because he felt so bad about the situation he bought me the push pole I had been talking about getting. **** happens sometimes, but it’s nice to have good friends when it does.
OV! Hang on to him, but take heed to life lessons, they for the most part were learned the hard way! If you trust him so implicitly, why are you questioning his story and looking to disprove or prove it? You would think you would have just taken his word for it?

This is the truth, speaking from experience as the renter. No friendship or family relationship is worth flushing over a rental, but the chances of that happening are way higher when you’re in this situation.

NAILED it.
i am a dooshbag too.
Thanks for posting the good ending on that story OVwhaler. You said your friend got you a push pole he knew you were thinking about. That is a pretty cool thing I would say. A funny side story on that note. I was in Hadrells the other day looking at some lures. I overheard I guy in the next isle ask one of the store employees “where can I get a cheap push pole?”. I heard the employee answer without hesitation “their is no such thing as a cheap push pole”. It made me chuckle.

Dorado … glad I made you chuckle … just a simple fact when purchasing a pushpole.
OV glad everything worked out for ya.
my dad always told me that there are two things you never let a friend borrow. That’s your boat and your wife.
- I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.

That brings to mind an old saying told to me by an old farm hand. Three things to never believe a person say… “my dog doesn’t bite, that horse won’t kick, and my wife would never cheat on me.”
So far as I know my wife has never cheated on me. Hope the old timer was wrong!!
OVwhaler, I do have a father, friend, and son that I loan my boat, tractor, and pretty much anything else they would ask for knowing it would come back the same or better. Just had some bad experiences in my younger days that has taught me that loaning anything usually leads to hard feelings unless you are willing to give it away.
I woke up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night and I noticed a Muslim, sneaking through my next door neighbor’s garden.
Suddenly my neighbor came from nowhere and smacked him over the head with a shovel, killing him instantly.
He then dug a grave and put the body in it and covered it. Astonished I got back into bed.
Carol, my lovely wife said, "Warren, you’re shaking, what is it?
“You’ll never believe what I’ve just seen,” I said, “that son of a ***** next door still has my shovel.”
Stepped out back of work for a minute and read that joke. Came back in chuckling and everyone is asking what’s so funny. I let em read it now everyone is laughing and going around telling everyone else and completely butchering it.
Made my morning Easy
OV, I’m just glad you can still smile. Like they say, they can’t eat you, and life goes on:wink:
I’ll lend you what I’m fortunate to have. Bring it back to me when you are finished. If you break it, fix it. If it breaks while you using it, it probably would have broken the next time I used it, so just bring it back as is. You did me a favor.
