Tried something new today and fished Battery Creek for a while. My parents have a house back near the Spanish Moss trail, so I thought I’d explore and maybe find some drops off the beaten path. Not a single bite for 2 hours. Do the fish move out of the smaller creeks this time of year when it gets colder? One spot I tried-- Rabbit Island-- looked like a picturesque fall fishing spot; about 15 feet at low tide with old trees in the water and a nice swift current. Really thought the trout might be schooled up around those trees. I’m wondering if anyone else has fished this area? Thanks!
I’ve never really done any good fishing around battery creek.
It’s been a couple years since I fished there and I only tried it a couple of times. Never had any luck there. The most action I had was hooking up with something very big under the bridge next to the boat ramp. Could’ve been a large redfish, black drum or shark but it broke me off on the bridge pilings.

Strange, all the old timers I talk to swear that there are fish back up in BC. I think I may have tried it too late in the year, as the shrimp moved out of the creeks a couple months ago.
We stayed in a VRBO way up Battery Creek on July 4th weekend in 2015. Beyond the old train trestle which is to low to paddle a kayak under at high tide. That far up, the creek was dry at low tide. Caught plenty of shrimp off the dock and had a great time paddling the yaks but no fish there or when I took my boat down to the ramp by the turn into Parris Island.
I’ve been thinking about fishing Battery Creek but maybe not so much now. I thought with all of the grassy areas from Parris Island boat landing back up in the creek it might be good. Glad I read the responses
Have not been in that creek in 4 years, but have fished it several times. Have never had luck there. A random trout or spot tail and stingray. An old work friend’s parents had a dock on the creek and we put in around that area. My advice, go through Archers Creek and fish the Broad. Or fish the point off Parris Island. Also try coming out of Battery Creek and hang a left on Beaufort river and fish the right side just past Lady’s Island bridge.
Thanks for the replies. I’ve heard that people do very well with trout on the trestle on the Spanish Moss trail during October/November. Oh well, I’ll have to give a a try next year!
