Do your hands peel a week to 10 days after fishing. No matter how cautious I am by trying to avoid the slime of fish that I catch, it doesnt matter,my hands will peel.
They are somewhat painful the day or 2 after fishing very sensitive to heat, and swollen red. When the skin starts to peel around the fingertips, very sensitive as well
Doctor has no cure, said its from many years of fishing and a chemical reaction to fish slime, no duh. Ive looked at other nationwide blogs about this, and many have the same problem, but with no answers.
Gloves suck, tried mechanics paste to coat the hands, but that washes off quickly.
Kinda wierd, but have you ever tried taking benedryl or putting Benedryl cream on your hands. You may have developed an allergy and the Benedryl will block the histamines. It might be worth a shot.
Clean my hands with a little bit of bleach and water at the end of the day…works for me. I’ve gotten infections in my fingers in the past but this seems to do the trick.

I'll be the guy drinking Pabst on a 85 montauk with a clemson flag hangin from the stern light, going about 6 knots,. . .hopefully we'll have some ladies with us, but I think that might be wishfull thinking at this point.
My hands would hurt and I guess sometimes peel, but that’s never really been a major problem of mine. The infections were the worst thing to ever happen to me. Swollen for days at a time…

a friend in florida shared a cure with me. He keeps baby whipes on the boat and cleans his hands with the disenfectant baby whipes after fishing. It has worked like a charm for me. Reduces the soreness and swelling from gill guts, hook punctures and other things.
Hoppy, the Pomps will be here in good numbers in July when the water is in the mid 80’s. Stay tuned.
I tried last weekend out at a good spot that has produced well over the years,I didnt have any luck other than MONSTER BULL WHITING,which hit the grease Saturday night at the campground.
2b,Ill try the wipes, its just a pain when you are bottom fishing and you are in em thick.
Slack I go as much as possible, when the Warden says I can go.
You should get some latex gloves and just use a glove on one hand, and later that week see if one hand gets nasty. Then in the future, just wear it like a golf glove, make that your fish-handling hand, if the cortizone doesn’t work. I’m surprised your doctor hasn’t already recommended some of this stuff. That’s an interesting problem you have. Is it like Bass Thumb?
Fished yesterday offshore, tried everything one glove, cream, rubbing alcohol, nothing seems to work. Hands are painful, swollen and very red as I type. Plain sucks.
I guess its from just working on head boats for 6 summers as a kid,and now that I am older, the body has a different reaction to fish slime and and being finned every now and then.
Dealt with all my life as I grew up with a severe allergy to fish and shellfish.
From consumption standpoint, any fish other than tuna or salmon would kill me.
I quit fishing as a teen because it was so severe on the hands they would pick a girls undies to pieces and I couldn’t catch a football!
They still peel somewhat but not like they used too…were sore on Friday after cleaning a mess of dolphin and loading the boat with pogies.
Now, its not as bad and I haven’t found a fish I can’t eat…life is good!
CP, man that sucks. I have noticed that my hands are swollen after fishing. Not real bad, but enough that the ring will not come off. Usually goes away within 2 days, but not painful.
