Me and several of my buddies are wanting to make a trip down on our spring break and I was wondering if this is a good time of year for inshore fishing and also what area would be good and what are some good places to stay that wont break the bank as we are on student budgets? We may even consider camping somewhere if that is possible. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I fished around IOP last year so I learned my way around there a little bit but would be willing to try new places.

If you’re looking to camp, Buck Hall is a good location w/ a ramp and access to a lot of inshore fishing area.
You can search this forum and find other info on camping and places to stay. If you want to stay on IOP, Sea Cabins are small and likely one of the cheapest. Also, they’re located in a location that college students would like.
I assume that you’ll be kayak fishing. Look up the launches at Copahee Sound and Paradise launch on the Wando.
You’ll find tons on info in these forums if you use the search function.
Good luck. Hope that you have a great time.
If you are looking for a house/condo, I would check VRBO.com. Great place to rent from.

Thanks for the replys. We will be bringing at least one possibly 2 boats depending on how many people end up going. Also we are just looking for somewhere to stay for a night maybe two

People camp on cat island in the wando throughout the summer. Just above Hwy 41 bridge.
Calm water, should be nice weather and not too many bugs in April. You need to bring your own firewood though.
Fantastic fishing in the area too.

What would be the best landing to put in at to get to cat island? And want part of the wando is it in? Are there any hotels that allow boats and are not very pricey in the area?

Depends on how big/what kind your boat is. Paradise landing is right there on the upper Wando.

We will probably be in the 19ft bay boat in my signature and possibly a 16ft aluminum boat or a 14 ft skiff

Do not leave your truck/trailer there over night or all day for that matter. A lot of problems there. Remely’s is the closest ramp where you can leave a truck overnight.
No bugs in April.?

No hotels near there. So called primitive camping at cat island. Bring two anchors or you may find yourself high and dry in the morning…
Capers is another idea. You need to call in a permit which is free. You will find wood there. You can put in at wild dunes for that and you pay per day ahead of time for the time you spend parked there.

We kept our 14 ft skiff at the IOP marina last year. Who would we need to call about a permit? Also what about hotels around somewhere like patriots point?

Camp at Morris Island on the backside of Folly? Somebody else probably knows the legality of It, but Sandy Point Kiawah would be a great location to camp! Also I jnow an Island in the folly large enough to beach 2 boats and hold a couple tents. PM me, its where I personally go…
Trust me, on a student budget primitive camping is always better lol. Yall could camp at the JICP and trailer the boat to different locations everyday.

Same place to get your capers permit. Yakman no overnight at Morris island and no beer on the island. They do not need a few tickets to run up the price of their visit.

Thanks for the links and places. I looked at them and the park seems to be about 35-40 mins away from IOP(where I would like to put in). I found a days inn in patriots point that is right at $80 a night and we would probably only be staying one night and if we have 4 people to split it between it wouldn’t be bad. Does this sound like a good idea?

Also what would be a good ramp nearby JICP that has good fishing near by? How far is Shem creek landing from there? Is it a good place to put in?

Folly Beach ramp or Sol Legare. Folly is fine to leave a vehicle over night, but Sol Legare has had a bad rep for break-ins in the past. Both are fine during the day.

What about putting in at Shem creek and fishing in the cooper and wando and around the harbor and maybe off the back side of Sullivan’s island?

They're in highschool. They're getting an MPA fine anywhere. And the backside of Morris (folly) no1 bothers you. Although if its not clearly legal I wouldn't wanna drive from the upstate to camp.
Fish are everywhere in every river system. If the water temp gets back up they should be starting to eat well in April! Its really a toss up where to fish, north or south of the harbor.. in my case, I seem to more easily find and catch fish in new places north of the harbor. But I catch better quality fish south of the harbor. Sol Legare is as close as it gets to JICP, right on the stono, Tons of Sharks and redfish. Wappoo cut is a great central location to fish all around the harbor(watch the weather in a smaller boat) a bit of everything. Remleys is great fishing the cooper and lower half of the Wando, redfish trout and flounder.
Shoot me a PM if you've got any specific questions
