While waiting off South Beach for pogies to appear maybe a couple 100 yrds off beach, four of us on boat,we all heard a buzzing noise and before we could figure it out, a drone about the size of a 6 gall gas can was hoovering right beside the t-top maybe a foot away,I saw the camera eye looking at us,we did not have much time to react befor we relized what it was,I quickly flipped the thing off,and a split second later it was headed for beach,no privacy anywhere,I just wished I had time to smack it with gaff
It’s a shame that you now have to carry a sidearm literally on your side just to fish offshore now.
Is it legal to shoot down a civilian drone?

Sure its legal! You felt threatened and in fear for your life. You thought you saw Hellfire missiles pointed at you.
I bet that was not a civilian drone down there. Some marines on parris island are getting there rocks off checking out girls on boats.

If that was the case, you did see Hellfires, hanging off it:wink:
Drones aside did you ever find the pogies? We searched for about an hour and a half this morning. South beach and Tybee but never could find anything. Talked to a guy Friday who said he rode over to Tybee from Hilton head and didn’t find them either but found them by the 4/5 cans on the way back.

I had a drone hover over me in Broad River last year near Parris Island. Made a couple of slow circles 20’ above the T-top and then buzzed on up the river. It wasn’t very big, no larger than a large bird. I figured it was military, don’t know.

found some pogies between Hyatt and Westin yesterday in about 8 feet, had to blind cast when marked on bottom but were good size. Definitely had to work for them few birds working them…
I wonder what the legalities really are concerning drones. Should be some type of regulations limiting their operation altitude,… proximity to boats, cars roads, people, etc. Also, what size shot would be legal with a 12 gauge, bag limits, season, etc. Seems like 00 buckshot would probably bring one down. Probably be tough to clean and cook tho’.
I honestly think I would have swung at it with a paddle or

I considered shooting it down, but then I considered the possible ramifications of shooting down a US military aircraft while being filmed doing it [:0]

If it was hovering you should have just cast your line into the rotors and brought it down! You could have said you didn’t see it:wink:
I would like to put a camera on one to send out to scout out where the Redfish are holding during the schooling time of year. Need a computer guru to come up with the receiving unit on the boat. Save gas, trolling motor power and time searching. Could also scout up the small feeder creeks and see where they are holding.
It was kind of like deer in the headlights thing,4 on boat and it was just so **** fast,I think it was one of those rich HHI spoiled brats more than anything, would be cool to check out babes on beach,Back to pogies,i was with an old friend who part time charters and we have been around,we actually went all around island looking, saw spotty but would not come up,what is going on ,cobia are late, water is so clear even up places where it should look like tea, nobody really tearing anything up,global warming?
