Speaking of sharks, we saw an 8 foot hammerhead trying to eat a spiny power today. Thought it was a crab float until we saw the shark, offshore Hunting Island. Wish I could figure out how to post the picture. Pretty cool.

I have seen and taken pictures of people handling sharks/reds on Folly where they will actually cut the sharks and even reds jaw in order to get the hook back. Most the pictures are pretty bloody and nasty and I rather not start a witch hunt as most of the fishermen/women are frequent users of this site. Seeing someone holding a small shark that appears to be unharmed should be the least of our worries…
Tiger sharks are breeding off our coastline. That one could one have been much bigger than that when born!
Chas’n born, Chas’n raised!
I am not offended by this at all… I bet that little tiger would have been tasty as well

Nice pics, but I still want to know what that spiny ball is. Google tells me nothing. Help please.

Hey Larry. It is a spiny puffer fish. It was blown up on the surface with the shark when we saw it. I’m guessing there was some live bottom nearby.

I’ve never seen one that big. Thanks! Learned something new again:smiley:

Originally posted by CaptFritzWith all the fish handling discussions and wondering if they die or not, think about those poor tournament redfish that are taken from their habitat, thrown in a well for several hours, relocated up to 60 miles away in some cases, then put in plastic bags while we wait to weigh them in, then they get dumped of the weigh in dock to “survive.” Redfish tournaments should end with a good ol fashioned fish fry. With Red Rice and hush puppies.

You could have a fish cleaning contest. The cleanest filets, with the least amount meat left on the fish (we use a transparency test) the fastest.
