Hit the beach around 7am. As soon as I got my lines out I had both my rods go off. I could only get one and it was a 22inch redfish. The other fish on my other rod ran into the rocks and got cut off while I was fighting the 22. Things were a little slow so I threw out my lure rod with a rat-l-trap lure. First cast by the rocks and I had on what looked to be a 20 inch plus redfish. I had him weak and was pulling him in and poof he got off right before I was landing him. I then switched spots to the other side of the rocks. Within a min both rods went off again. Again I had to choose and I fought a 40 inch red for about 5 min. The other rods fish got off again. After that it was larger bluefish and several under slot redfish with the rat-l-trap lure in the surf. Feels great to get back out in the surf. The Shimano 6000baitrunners and the okuma csx rods worked flawlessly. The new electric surf cart was a dream and is the reason I can get back out there now. For the rigs I was using double drop steel rigs from Walmart. Cheap Chinese 5/0 offset circle hooks off eBay.(really good hooks btw and cheap enough to change every trip) 4oz pyramid. For bait as allways frozen and fresh bluefish. My go to bait did not let me down.
Very, Very, Nice!!!
And so it begins…
What do you use to catch your blue fish consistently? I have heard they are good bait but never tried them.
Same setup I use for reds. I didn’t target them specifically they just bite my redfish lines.
Well if there was ever a good time to get back out there its now. Much better than any of the recent days iv had a folly. Rhat kart is awesome.
Way to break in that new cart. Mighty fine catching Stevo:smiley:
Awesome report!
Nice fish Stevo! I passed you on Friday and recognized the cart from here. Knowing Stevo fishes during the week, I came back on the weekend to raid “Stevo’s-Jetty” and pulled two big bulls out of the hole. I won’t say what side!
Glad I could help its a good spot they like swimming around those rocks. But honestly the whole North side I can’t tell a difference I’ve caught them all along the beach. I just prefer by the rocks cause it blocks some of the stronger currents on the rough days and debri coming through.
Nice pics and post - thanks
