Looking at SSTs… Water inside of the ledge was 68 degrees on May 4th and 80 degrees today just 10 days later? That’s not good folks… Too hot too quick… How much longer do we have? I think June is going to be tough fishing. Looks like we are getting big dolphin around, but how hard will they be to find in a few weeks?
it has gotten warm quick. some cold is on the way but it might be too late.

Soooo…
You better get out there quickly and often…

They are like colorful cobia…how many can you catch before your like, OK, let’s do something else.
quote:Yeah, no doubt on the 15# fish, but as long as there are 40-50 lb fish around it is still interesting. I haven't heard of any yet, but I bet a few 60 lb fish will be caught in the next couple of weeks if not already.

The other good thing about them is that they are filler when targeting other species. They keep you awake.
To that point though, I don’t see how people stick it out to catch “a limit” of 60 fish. We will never catch 60 on my boat. They are a pain to release as well. It can’t be fun. I think people do it just to say they did it.

Offshore Tip #11 - afternoon SST’s look alot warmer due to the sun shining all day…
quote:Offshore Tip #12 - It doesn't warm up 12 degrees in the course of the day, maybe 1-2 degrees. Offshore Tip #13 - SkinneeJ doesn't just look at afternoon SSTs...

No, I don’t really look if it says “dolphin” anywhere near it?
Although in this case, can’t say I even got that far.
Cliff notes from last year please…
Courtland I get a feeling you don’t like catching dolphin?

Certainly not bashing it. I like the fact that people get excited about them and motivate folks to get on the water.
Really just having mindless chatter on a rainy day.
Court, hooking onto a 50# dolphin on one of your poppers wouldn’t get the blood pumping???

For sure it would.
We actually raised a blue marlin and a sail in India to the poppers. Next nice day I’ll be deep throwing dolphin colored poppers hoping for that 1 bite.
Stoked to get on the groupers too.
Last yr was excellent for big dolphin
