Badonk-A-Donk

I met my brother Andy a few months back for lunch. While eating he says, “by the way before we leave don’t let me forgot to give you some Badonk-A-Donks I have in my truck.” I scratched my head for a second, “Badonk-A- what’s?” He repeated it, “Badonk-A-Donks.” I was still obviously bewildered, thoughts raced through my head of what the heck a Badonk-A-Donk could be…candy, cookies, fruit, some type of new tool, is Badonk-A-Donk a word that should be used in public? Not sure if to say the word out loud I whispered, “What the heck is a Badonk-A-Donk?” He replied, “It’s a new salt water bait from Bomber for top-water fishing.” Mark Davis, a long time friend of Andy’s and a guy with one of the coolest jobs in the world, a tackle rep, had sent Andy a handful of these new baits to try out. Andy split the handful with me and gave me specific instructions as Mark always does with him, “Now go test them out and catch some fish.”

I am not certain what part of top-water fishing I like the most, weather it is a trout or bass smashing a bait right in front of my eyes, or the fact that I can leave the house at 6 am and fish for two hours and be home before my wife wakes up and gives me a list of honey does. Regardless when it comes to early morning top-water fishing I am hooked! Within a couple days of receiving the special goods from Andy I was on the water giving the crazy named new lure a test.

Pictured are a few nice trout taken recently in the Folly River on the Badonk-A-Donk. Even though they are a fairly new lure Bomber’s Badonk-A-Donks already come in a wide variety of colors. You also have your choice of sizes from 3.5” to 5” in length and two options in rattle; high pitch rattle for choppy water days, and low pitch for calm days. The baits are well made with good quality salt water hooks and they track well across the top. So far my favorite is the 4-inch with green body, black vertical stripes, and orange belly and a low pitch rattle.
