Bait shrimping around the Edisto

I am hoping someone on here will let me know of a past productive area or general location to bait in some shrimp. My thoughts were going on the flat between big bay and st Pierre creeks. The water depth looks about right and its close to the ocean.

I am just unsure with all of the fresh water that has been coming down the S. Edisto that the shrimp will be there. I have seen lots of little guys in the creeks but still nothing that a 5/8 mesh net will hold.

I hit that spot one time last year, we did about 3/4 cooler. Just watch the depth when you set up

MattR - We have done that but have had much better luck on a consistent basis if you go up to ■■■■■■■ and hang a left into the Ashepoo, go all the way to the edge of St. Helena Sound, go to the right at the red ‘A2’ marker and look for water 5-8’ deep. Have always done really well there in DAYLIGHT!!! That is the best part. Only went once there last year but coolered in about 2 hours - all med. to large. Let us know how you do if you try. Best of luck!

Nooooo! Terrible advice. The water is too rough and there are no shrimp out there either.

Marshman, thanks for the advice. I was snooping around that area when running to the light looking for cobia. I think I caught a decent bonnet around where you are talking about. I love the idea of daylight shrimping.

Tigerfin, don’t worry about me, the hydra has high sides and takes waves well.

Marshman is spot on, there’s a big mud flat with lots of boats usually.

Matt when the shrimp get going over here in the bay I will hook you up. Like I said before in previous seasons we have had as much as 700 pds in the freezer. It will only cost you a few near shore bottom fishing spots that I can get to in my 18 CC pioneer. Lol

Better off going to the sound around Ash Island slue

They sure are small so far, hope the grow quick before they leave!

I got a few quarts of large but a lot of mediums Sat night. I had the kids peel all the mediums tonight and the wife battered and fried them. Had them with a slab of red porgy.

I am going to try and hit them hard here in 2 weeks when the tide looks a little better.
