We were fishing a barrier island beach North of Mt P this weekend when a drone flew by about 100 yards offshore at 50 feet altitude.
Did not hover-looked like it was spying to see what was going on.
Wonder what that was all about?
CG?DNR?Civie just snooping?
So So catch:
-2-38" Reds
-1-29" Red
-2-Sharpnose-2-3’
Had better days.
Angler caught a 38"er on his first cast-didn’t even have time to put his rod in the holder!
Must have hit the fish in its mouth with the crab!
We got all excited-thought it would be a banner day-didn’t work out that way.
The range on those things is incredible; the operator could have been miles away. My guess was that it was someone just trying to get some cool video of the area. I see a lot of these “fly-by” drone shots used as B-roll footage in their fishing videos.
Although, sadly none of the other things you mentioned would surprise me.
Thats not a bad day at all Sternline. I’d be thrilled If I had a day like that. The other day I had a drone that kept buzzing me out at breach inlet while casting for bait. Kept buzzing me and circling back around. I have seen a video or two of people trying to shoot those things down with shot guns when they were peeping at ladies sun bathing in their own back yard. Also seen some where some guys were trying to hit one by casting rods at it that kept buzzing them at a pier while they fished.
Drone pilot may have been looking for bait schools/reds in the surf. I’ve seen it done from paddle boards so it would make sense that it’s easier with a drone.
