Beaufort Area Piers & Surfing

Headed down to Beaufort area next week to fish and looking for new places to fish. I normally fish Hunting Island. I was going to give the Broad River Pier a try this trip.

Any other suggestions? I saw a post awhile back about Knowles Island Pier. I couldn’t find it on Google. Anybody know where it is?

Love Hunting Island, but just wanted explore a little.

Thanks

Can’t help you on Knowles - should be over on Broad near hwy170 area. IDK I think one of those bridges over there in that area has a fishing catwalk down the side of it. May be 170 at Broad or over by Lemon Is or Cheechessie.
The Hunting pier is good when the bite is on. Just depends. I’ve had good luck under Johnson Cr bridge on way out there. Also up beach on last groin North end where Johnson Cr comes out in the ocean.

Thanks, J. I have fished Hunting Island several times. It takes patience, but at least you’re comfortable.

I did find the Knowles Island pier, it’s up close to Ridgeland. I might give it try on the way down.

Broad river pier is a good place. The Pier is a piece of the old 170 bridge and goes out a good ways. This time of year would be a likely chance of catching a cobia, unfortunately you can’t keep em. You’d have to drag it to the shore to retrieve.

Fort Fremont has a small beac, and you can poke around the old fort. On st Helena, seaside rd to triangle rd.

End of coffin pt rd, hang a right at the stop sign just before the plantation, there’s a small beach.

I’ve seen dozens of cobia landed off the end of broad river pier. But have also seen quite a few black drum caught at the foot of the pier when it’s not dead low tide. And there’s a spot at the S end of the Broad River bridge accessible from the S bound lane. Pull off to grass and walk to foot of bridge. Can access a nice tidal creek and shore there.

The Sands in downtown port royal is a cool spot. There’s a pier there and a beach you can pull your car right up to. Lots of water to pitch to. Also a great place to find sharks teeth.

Two great business there worth a mentioning, Capt Dicks Beaufort River Tours (coolers are encouraged) out of downtown marina and dockside restaurant on Lady’s isl. best shecrab soup, bar none. I mean it.

Thanks guys for all the info. Decided to hit Folly instead. Called the Nature Center at Hunting Island and they said there was only 280’ of pier open but it was closed to fishing and crabbing. None of the beach is open. She said they hoped to be open by Memorial Day.

So I guess I’ll be down in June. I will hit some the spots you mentioned.
