Johnson calls it a trim and tilt sending unit: 0433462
Well, took the day off on Friday, and worked on this thing hard, then again yesterday morning, and again almost all day today…it’s SOOOO close.
Console is mounted and everything is wired up and tested good.
Helm mounted and hoses run.
Controls mounted and hooked up.
Keyswitch installed and hooked up.
AC outlet for batt charger installed
4 speakers installed and wired
Platform installed.
Deck for platform cut and mounted
Anchor light mounted under platform.
NAV lights installed on side of console.
Batteries installed and wired to switch.
Jackplate relays hooked up
Bilge pump wired with float switch and keyed override, tests good
Bait pump wired
Raw water washdown pump installed, wired, and plumbed.
Simrad and SonicHub software updates completed (via Wifi…in the driveway!)
Had a helluva time with the tilt/trim. After having a stripped out fill hole in the reservoir I had to fix and buy a new bolt, I wrung off a bolt in the trim unit itself that holds down the reservoir. I managed to remove the tilt/trim through the back of the motor without splitting the bracket thank goodness…because it didn’t want to budge. Got the bolt drilled and tapped and it all buttoned back up. Got it installed back in the motor and hung it (again). Was able to get the system working great…NO LEAKS!!
I’m sure I’m missing some stuff, but I’m SOOOO CLOSE.
All I have left to do:
Mount all hatch doors and hinges
Cut console a little bigger for rear hatch to go in.
Install forward console hatch
Install forward locker hatch
Mount side gunnel panels
Make supports for gunnel panels
Plumb deck drain
Install on-board charger
Run cables from batteries to motor (not here yet)
Hook up gas gauge
Hook up water pressure hose at engine
Bleed steering system
Instal trolling motor mount
Install trolling motor plug
Install rub rail
Install stickers
Buy more beer
FLoat this turd…
PICS tomorrow I hope.

This is just how my luck goes…luckily I’ve had lots of experience fixing things lol. Plus, there’s no quit in me…I need this thing done!

And some pics from the weekend…
First the (**()ed broken off bolt…M6x1.0 of course I didn’t have the tap. As you can see in the second pic, getting to it was IMPOSSIBLE. Had to remove the trim unit.
There it is, and the hammer that finally freed her. You guys like my puppy bed turned into protective surface?
Luckily was able to get this out WITHOUT splitting the bracket I just took the big nut off the tube, took 6 bolts out of sides, whacked it a couple of times and it loosened up. Was able to shimmy it out without the res and motor hooked up…would NOT have been able to without removing those pieces.
And there she is all buttoned up and fixed. So much easier to work on a vise instead of on the boat…
And some shots of the stern light install. Gonna add some heat shrink to the wires that show, and plug the hole with some 4200.
And to end the day, gotta love technology. Updating the software on the Simrad GO7 and the SonicHub2 via on-board Wifi…
Oh, and the Polk Audio 6.5’s sound excellent just running on the SonicHub. Can’t wait to hear them on the amplifier later.

Got jackplate working today. Had to extend the signal wire to its relays to reach…and some jackass wired the switch wrong, so it wouldn’t work…need to have a talk with my electrician…

Knocking this list out!
Got gunnel supports made and gunnels glued down.
Mounted trolling motor plug
Mounted side rails over fuel tank under console and mounted battery charger and AC plug on outside of console.
Got all hatches installed.
Gas gauge hooked up and functioning.
Got the battery charger running now…really like how smart it is. Minn Kota 210D, and there’s currently a rebate going on.

Tonight I’ll hook up the TM plug, maybe mount the gunnel supports.
Friday I’m off of work and this thing will be getting wet…

Looking good Buddy. You have put a lot of hard work into that boat. Can’t wait to see pics on the water.
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?
Wiring is 100% done.
Tomorrow we wrap it up:
TM install
Rub rail install
Deck drain install and plumb
Ducer screwed in to board
Prop installed and pinned
Console hatch cut and installed
It’s really happening.

If you had called Pea Pod, to help, you would have been done before Christmas:smiley:
Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Look at where Jesus went to pick people. He didn’t go to the colleges; he got guys off the fishing docks.
When are you going to have the ceremony? I’m sure a few of us will be sitting at the ramp for the unveiling and first run.

My plan is to float the boat tomorrow at some point at Limehouse…just to shake her down. Will have another Bentz-Craft there for a “chase” boat or “rescue” boat whichever one it needs to be.
Not sure when though. And still a couple of things to button up, like tying in the last few wires when I confirm I don’t need to fix anything, lol.

Leadenwah,
I have really enjoyed watching you work through this rebuild. UBW was very lucky that you started just about the time we pulled the flats boat molds out to clean them up and pull them into production. The opportunity to see your hull come apart and document it while apart enabled us to confirm that we are building our boats to the same standards Robert used and better.
I’d like to thank you for your support of our bringing the Bentz-Craft flats boat back to Lowcountry waters. We’ll be doing the float testing on our first flats boat hull in a few weeks and will be hanging a motor shortly after that. 'Can’t wait to see your old(and beautifully restored) hull and our new hull on the water.
Thank you.

You need The Pea Pod, on the other boat! Scuttlebutt has it, that he is a CG certified Rescue Swimmer and carries extra bilge plugs in his pocket:wink: Good luck with the NEW boat:smiley:

Thanks! I have been echoing the NEW thing as well. Now that I think about it, the only “used” parts are the engine, steering wheel, hatch hinges, and the hull itself. And every one of those pieces got upgraded and restored!

Enjoyed following you on this as well and wish I had the patience and skills to do something like you have! Have a camera boat get pics of the “new” boat’s first splash.

Patience has been THOROUGHLY tested, that’s for sure. On the skills end, I’m just a guy with enough money and balls to try anything myself. Can’t afford to pay people to do stuff, so I learn it!
Jack of all, master of none.
Thanks for the kind words…there will be pics for sure.
