I struggled with whether or not it was appropriate to give her a name being such a small boat. Then I decided that the work that goes in and the end result to me will be well worthy, so yes she will be named. As far as what?

Well, I’m a gun dealer, so…the name is A-Salt-Weapon. Still deciding if I want to change the logo to be a shark of some sort, or keep the redfish…open to suggestions and on font also.

IMO every boat should have a name. Just like a kid or a dog

Got the hull sanded down yesterday. Bottom paint was only hiding one bad spot on the keel. It has been fixed and the hull has been faired with AWLFair. Today we sand and hi-build! Pics to come tomorrow!

Nice work, keep it up!

couldn’t ask for a better time to install a thru-hull trans , especially in the flat center of the hull if you’re gonna do it, but it’s really looking good , great job and keep posting progress !!!

I wanted to do that, but the keel is very thick, and it was really nearly impossible to get to with the “stringer grid” set down in the hull. Would have to violate that structure, and couldn’t justify it at that point…one of the only things I’ve conceded on this project!

Got the first coats of Hi-build on yesterday! Hull got filled with epoxy Awl-Fair, sanded, and then hi build. Today we sand and fill a couple of more spots, and tomorrow it’s sand and finish prime! Hope to lay down some color on Monday!

I’d say this before/after shows it all!

Also, here’s a sneak peek at the work being done on my Edson steering wheel…couldn’t justify getting rid of such a nice wheel for a black plastic one, so this is the route I decided on. Joey Taylor of Redfish District is doing the wrap for me. Superb work!

You’re doing a great job and moving along fast :sunglasses: nice line work on the wheel too!Not many people nowadays can tie a Turks Head. Most are ex Navy or CG.

:smiley:Looks like Joey might be a NAVY man , that wheel work is great.:smiley:

Thanks for the kind words, the encouragement helps immensely. This is one of those projects that it seems the more you dig the more work you find, the more expense you find, and the more headaches and hurdles you must overcome…BUT…that’s why we do this stuff, right? If it was easy, everyone would do it. I’ll say it again, doing this stuff myself with some help will make the boat that much more special to me. Not to mention I will intimately know EVERY square inch of it…

I love this thread, leadenwahboy you are setting a record for a boat refurbish, I can’t believe how much you have got done in a little bit of time. It looks awesome good job.

Thanks!

I actually have had this in the planning stages since I bought the boat last year, on Regatta weekend. I wanted to have it done this year, by Regatta weekend…that’s still the plan!

But by thinking about it for so long, I was able to buy parts piece by piece and stack them up, and save money to be prepared to do it all at once, from start to finish, without stopping for anything (barring finding some extreme damage or something). So far that has worked out for me. I’m very fortunate to be able to afford to do this, but I’m not sure I’ll ever do it again!

I’ve got to have some MRI scans on my back tomorrow, which may determine what my future might hold. Surgery I suspect. Right now I’m not sanding anymore boats, or doing much of anything else either. The age and the mileage are catching up:face_with_head_bandage:

But…

Love that steering wheel wrap. Amazing how good that hull looks that quickly.

Nothing quick about it on my end, lol! That’s about 6 hours of 80 grit sanding, 2 of 180. Then a round of filler (almost the whole boat got some sort of defect ground out and/or filled), then 4 more hours of sanding, then primer! But I know what you meant. Luckily it’s myself and another guy doing the work, so the labor is “cut in half.”

I neglected to prepare myself for the fingerprint removing, bone numbing, hours of sanding that were (still are) ahead of me! Today the hi-build gets sanded and another round of filler in some random spots.

Yes very good point. For us outsiders it's just scrolling from one page to the next. Lots of sweat and fiberglass itches.
