OK fellas before I start I just want to make this clear that I have no affiliations with this company at this time, so here it is, this is my review of the kastking royal legend bait casting reel.I have owned this reel for a little over 1 1/2 years and so far it is doing great, the outside looks brand new still, has no paint chips or flaking. Still just as smooth as the day I got it and the drag is still smooth. As a lot of you guys know, I mainly kayak fish so this reel has been abused alot, I have dropped it in the water and swam for hours to find it, I have dropped it on the concrete, I have dropped it in the puff mud, I have dropped it in the surf, I have beat the thing to death and it just won’t die. I have not taken any care of it what so ever, it has maybe seen 5 fresh water rinses since I got it and that’s it. I had no plans on this lasting more than a few weeks but here I am and I still use it every Tim I fish,I have caught everything from largemouth bass to Bowfin to reds and even a few bonnetheads. The drag is buttery smooth and the bearings are buttery smooth. At only $50 you won’t ever find any reel that will handle any of this, it has outlasted any of my other big name brand reels, and I am now switching to kastking gear due to this. I am sharing this because I figured some of you guys might be interested in the gear they offer, I bought my gear from www.eposeidon.Com check them out guys, also if you Google kastking sharky 2 spinning reel you can the new spinning reel they just released which is also under $50 and is sealed and waterproof for 3 minutes! Check them out guys, they will not disappoint!

I went to amazon and read some reviews on random reels, both spin and traditional. Definitely more good reviews than bad. The good ones are really good, and the bad ones are really bad. Like really really bad. That said, most said their CS was very good
I grew up doing bass fishing and I learned to use a bit caster before I did a spinning reel haha, and the wad of line in the background was from me over spooling the reel, had to take a good bit off lol

They are a game changer once you learn to use it, I only use mine for larger artificoals like spooks and big jigs and swimbaits. Yall should check out the new updated version of this called the kastking stealth, it’s all carbon fiber and under $60 on amazon.

Even a novice can cast a properly set up baitcaster. That’s most people’s problem, they don’t know how to set them up to match the bait they’re throwing.

In the future, where every stranger poses a potential threat, knowing the predator mindset is the only safe haven.
For the uninitiated (non-baitcasters) what is the advantage over a spinning reel OR why a baitcaster over a spinning reel? Asking because I don’t know as my only experience with them was bad (surely my fault).

Baitcasters offer more power than spinning reels and when you become proficient with them, you can be more accurate with your casts. They also offer a wider range of gear ratios and can therefore be better suited for specific presentations/techniques.
That said, I use one just as much as the other. I wouldn’t say one is “better” than the other.

When dropping bait to a certain depth, like striper fishing in the lake, I find it easier to strip the line and count with a baitcaster. Also, many have clickers. Spinners all day with kids.

For our fishery, what you gain is speed and efficiency, imo. More casts per time and easier to brake your cast. You can do the same thing with spinning gear that you can with bait casting gear, but it may take more motions to get it done. The whole gear ratio and power concept isn’t that big of a factor with 90% of the lures used for inshore salt water. In fact, the slower gear ratios/higher power bait casters can really hurt you when a big fish starts swimming quickly back to the boat. I’m no pro with a bait caster so I can’t cast nearly as far with the lighter stuff. Since I’m using 3/16 oz jig heads or lighter most of the time, the bait caster isn’t worth the decreased casting distance, especially when the wind kicks up. They are fun to use though, especially with top waters or something heavy that you can just sling around.
They offer an array of spinning reels as well, once I get my tax refund I’m gonna pick up a bunch of the reels they offer. I have used them and they are super smooth!

On the spinning side of the world the Pfluger President spinning reel is also an awesome bang for the buck. $59 at Gander, and Bass Pro and I have hauled in bull reds, 40 pound blue cats, couple giant black drum and in the summertime Atlantic Sharpnose sharks all on a medium size spinning reel with 20Lbs power pro. Awesome choice in my book. Im buying another one before they discontinue that model. Oh yes, House Appropriations Committee, I would like to propose a purchase request…I’ll let yall know what Madam President says…LOL

Good looking reel. I will say I bought one of those Diawa Laguna rods two years ago and broke it fighting a largemouth last April. I hope you have better luck with yours.
