I’m looking to see if anyone can suggest what they believe to be the best cart for surf fishing gear? The youth outdoors ministry I work as an outfitter for goes to Huntington State Park each summer and takes the over 1 mile hike with all of our gear to the jetties. It’s a great day of fishing but getting there is a battle. We bought the biggest of the new Berkley carts but honestly the metal broke not 150 yards into the hike. We need something that can hold over 150lbs of cooler with ice/drinks plus if can hold other stuff that would be great too. So anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Coach B Herring

Hey Coach B, I’ve used the fish-n-mate cart (largest size) for several years and have never had any issues. Bought it at Haddrells here in Charleston. Pretty sure that was the brand, if not it’s very similar. Even left it outside for a whole winter without any rust or noticeable damage. Not best practice I know.
Check out reels on wheels online. Made in America-NC. I think may be the same cart as mentioned above that is sold at Haddrels. The Sr. Cart is definitely the way to go. It has a ton of rod holders, Can carry a huge payload and has a wide base and you can fish directly out of the rod holders ,if you wish. The cart wont flip over like the smaller models( if fishing out of .) I have had the smaller carts flip over on me several times and sand ain’t good for reels. It helps your reels last longer. The stock tires work fine but if your looking for the best, like you stated, go big. Upgrade to the wheeleeze baloon tires.(also online) For me worth every penny. I also walk a considerable distance to fish with a very heavy load. The balloon tires are a night and day difference much, much easier to pull through thick sand at the high tide line when you have too. Get the proper size to go with the big cart, I think I got the 49cm, but check. The tires literally make pulling the cart on hard sand capable with one finger. Thick sand is much easier as well. The ballon tires will enable your cart to float ,which can also come in handy if your trying to wade through a trough or two to get to the ocean to fish on an outer bar. I have walked through chest deep water and had my cart floating next to me coming and going. There is also a less expensive line of poly tires that some like too. They are orange. Good luck Sir.
Thats a great deal! Big cart-big tires and that first review is yours. I recognize that car. I don’t know how you lug that yeti though, you must be in shape, and how do you fit all your beer in that wittle cooler
Thanks guys… this is what I have been looking at. I think the Sr. carries up to 200lbs with the big upgraded tires. That will make a huge difference. Just wish I could afford 2 lol. Thanks again.

I’ve had a Fish-n-mate for 13 years. It is still in great condition. No rust. Used very heavily. Great product by a N.C. company. They sell replacement parts and accessories too. I got mine at Haddrells.
I use a cart that I got from Northern Tool. They are about $90,have fold down sides and pneumatic tires for easy rolling. Bought some pvc and attached it to the sides with plastic tie downs for rod holders. It carries my rods cooler and tackle box, works great.
Berkley jumbo fishing cart. I bought one 2 months ago and it’s a great way to haul everything you need.
I love a lot of the Berkley stuff, but I had one of these, and it broke on us 100 yards into the trip down the beach. I honestly don’t think it was loaded down anymore than most would expect. Plus the part that messed up was not the cloth tearing but the metal basically ripping apart. We took it to the Walmart there and they replaced it with the smaller one. This year we might use it but only to carry light stuff. I think anything over 75lbs is probably too much for these. Again not hating on Berkley just telling you our experience with this one product. I hope they come out with something stronger and we will certainly look at going back to them. Until that time we are trying everything we can to raise money to buy the right cart for the guys to use. This is a nonprofit outdoors ministry so I am working hard on raising the money to pay for it and a new cooler. We are looking at the RTIC and the larger Fish-N-Mate with the bigger tires. If we can raise the money and buy it I’ll be sure to post pictures of them in use come time for our trip the first weekend of Aug. The guys are already so jacked they are going around finding scrap metal to recycle and doing a yard sale next weekend just to get the funds needed.

So we are now trying to decide which tires? We found it on Amazon with black and orange tires… I don’t see the grey. Our chapter is in York County so that’s a long ride to Haddrell’s although if in that area we would certainly go to those fellas.
My two cents on the cart/tires. I have a Roll Eze Beach cart with rod holder attachment. It has the balloon Roll eze wheels and they roll so easily on thick sand. My kids can push it around so easily. But in this area (Charleston - Folly, Edisto) I’ve not used it much because the plain tires on my garden wagon from Northern Tool works just fine. In Va Beach I found the sand to be thicker in larger areas and a wagon didn’t cut it. I have 5 kids and when we go to the beach, we take everything. Polls, tackle, chairs, coolers, boogie boards, and more. Ive even strapped a 35 lb SUP board on top of it all before. So a wagon like this isn’t a bad choice. Especially since you only use it once a year around the salt water. Just rinse well when you can and replacement tires are cheap. Its rated for 1400 lbs (which I would not recommend). http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200640326_200640326?cm_mmc=Bing-pla&utm_source=Bing_PLA&utm_medium=Lawn%20%2B%20Garden%20>%20Wagons%20%2B%20Yard%20Carts&utm_campaign=Strongway&utm_content=46438
If the sand is thick where you guys go, I’d definitely splurge and get something with the big balloon tires.
You can mount plastic fishing rod holders from any outdoor store onto this wagon. I have a 3 rod holder on mine. And I could put at least two more of those on it if I wanted.

I have a yard cart wagon cart and it is good on everything but the really soft thick sand. On the thick stuff the wheels stop spinning and you have to drag it which is tuff but for the most part our beaches don’t have that much thick sand usually just the path to the beach and like the top 20ft of the beach. But on a side note the rating is way off on the strongway wagon. I will load it down as full as I can but probably still only like 600lbs and the frame by the handle has bent and cracked the rims bent, and one of the rails rusted through after cracking, and I was planning to make pvc railing with rod holders but the frame issue has made me decide not to. I kept mine outside in the weather for 2 years and it got heavy usage but it did break and rust quick. Also it is pretty high off the ground which was nice for rolling over stuff but it made it top heavy and tippy when loaded and I have dumped it a couple times which really sucks because you have to reload it, luckily It never broke anything when tipping. But it is decent for the price and medium usage. I am gonna switch to a poly/balloon wheel aluminum one but I might have to get one made because all the ones I see are to small. I am thinking of 4 1/2 by 2 3/4 and 2 foot deep.
