Best color lens for sunglasses

What is the best color lens? Looking at Costas any other suggestions?

Costas has a lens chart on their website, at least they use to. Inhore greenish water they recommended amber lenses, offshore they recommended blue lenses

I did want to mention to get warp around glasses to protect your eye lenses from lateral UV damage. All the aviator glasses wont do that. Never had it but I image cataract surgery is no fun!

Pick ones that fit your face\head and are polarized. Color is a personal preference to me, although early is 100% correct as to what the Costa site says and his second comment is spot on as well.

Have owned several of both and I recommend Maui Jim’s over Costa’s for both lens quality and warranty but Costa’s are certainly popular among fishermen.

Regardless of brand The most important thing I have learned about sunglasses is go to a good specialty shop and get the ones that fit best. My son took me Shades of Charleston in Mt Pleasant and they worked with me to get the perfect fit which were Maui Jim Spartan Reef Marlin frames with HCL Bronze lenses for inshore fishing in dirty water.

Try a pair of Sunclouds before you spend big money on shades. Made by Smith, $50 retail and a great warranty. I wear them more than my Costas.

It's crazy how people view things, what have you found regarding Costas warranty you didn't like? I have a pair of Maui Jims with Gray lenses that make me feel like it is about to rain any minute.

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

I’m anti-Costa because of their business practice, specifically in regards to replacement lenses. Can’t just get replacement lenses. Gotta send them in, pay them $70 to replace lenses in a $200 pair of sunglasses. Suncloud makes excellent sunglasses at $40 a pair. Costa can kiss my assta.

You must be filling out the paperwork improperly when sending them back to costa. I've sent over a dozen pairs back thru the years for various reasons and never once had to pay for lenses.

Regardless of color I would recommend glass lenses. With the salt it’s just a matter of time until you scratch the plastic ones. I wipe my glass costa Jose’s off with my shirt all the time and they look brand new, they’re 2.5 years old. A lot of people say the extra weight is uncomfortable. I only noticed it when I was trying them on in the store, I guess I just got used to it.

agreed…any glass lens Coasta’s additional weight to me is offset by the lack of eye fatigue at the end of a long day in the sun and water…love my Costas…

I had a buddy have the same problem with costas. But it was 80 for his lenses. Just lost my shades today to a wave at the beach. Best pair of polarized shades under 20 ive had. Kevin van dams from wallmart. Had them 2 weeks so no longevity test but they were great for spotting color changes in water. Amber/yellow lenses like tac glasses that worked well in most Conditions. Your supposed to spray watwr on your lenses before cleaning. 101 stuff.

I’ve been wearing Radians Cobalt glasses for everyday use for many years. Smoke lenses, polorized, Z87.1+ safety glasses and only $6.99 a pair. Of course I do have Costas for fishing the salt…580g copper green mirror . Have always prefered amber/ copper colored lenses for fishing, blocks the rays but keeps things brite especially in low light conditions.

I have both Maui Jims and costas, all my glasses are glass. I find I wear my costas more than the maui’s because the maui’s seem heavier. I wear the copper green mirror more than any even driving. I also have the blue and the gray costas.

What did you put on your paperwork? They told me they won’t cover scratches and that I have to pay for the replacement lens.

I’ve been leaning heavily towards Costas but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I don’t see the color selection chart on their web site. What’s the rationale for amber lenses for inshore fishing (that’s about all I do)? Just that you can see into the water better?

Yep, it has to do with the wavelength of the light reflecting back from the water. The green lenses seem to capture more light from the murky water while filtering out the natural reflection from the sun. I personally tried blue lenses in brown water and the combination didn’t work for me. If you have the time you may want to stop by Shades of Charleston in Mt Pleasant even if you don’t live out that way. They have a lot of good information on-hand and really cater to the fisherman in the area. I believe the owner is a big time fisherman. Definitely worth the trip. I believe Jackson Davenport downtown also has a decent selection.
I have had costas for 20+ years and have broken the glass out of the glasses and have always had to pay for the lens to be replaced, was $60, then $70 and I think someone mentioned it was $80 now.
Maui Jims, I have had several lens replaced on their glasses and it’s always been $5 for shipping. I don’t think many of the top selling manufacturers top Maui’s warranty. Both places I mentioned carry both Maui’s and Costas
Hope that helps
