Not a fishing report, but figured I would get a good answer here. Will be surf fishing with cut mullet and heavy surf rod. Looking for the big reds. I think circle hook? What size for the big bruisers? Any help would be appreciated. I found my dad’s Roddy surf rod in the attic. I figure he bought it in the early 1960’s. It would be so great to catch something worthy on it!
I am a big fan of 10/0 Owner hooks. I like the gap and they don’t snap as easily as Gama’s (though I use these as well in 6/0 to 9/0). The run is just getting started up here in VA. First reported beach fish landed this morning at False Cape State Park in Virginia Beach (a decent 49" fish).
On a side note there have been multiple landings of Cobia from some of the piers on the OBX.
