Best inshore store

With any luck I am only a few weeks from relocating to the Charleston area. Fishing is what is bringing me there

Except for rods and reels, my gear is very outdated.
I intend to fish inshore salt water 90+% of the time.
At first will be from shore, then a few weeks later from a kayak.

What I need is a good tackle store for inshore gear - line, leaders, rigs, lures, artificial baits, etc. Contents of my current tackle box are mostly 30+ years old and need replacement.

So where is the best (service and advice, not price) store for a heart and lung transplant of my current gear?

BTW where is the most affordable place to buy a Hobie Mirage Angler yak?

Haddrells for advice and tackle. Internet for the yak.

Hard to beat the years of experience the guys at Haddrell’s bring to the table as far as advice.

That said, the new kid on the block (Palmetto State Armory) has THE LARGEST selection of inshore gear (rods, reels, lures, terminal tackle…you name it) in the Mt Pleasant/Charleston area. Capt Dave and Chris have been very helpful the couple of times I’ve been by there. I know Chris is a big yak fisherman too.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

Haddrell’s Point Tackle is your place. Great selection of tackle and a knowledgeable friendly staff.

Obviously Haddrells has the years of work put in, but selection and price, gotta give it to PSA. The guys and gals are always helpful and they have more stuff then I know what to do with. Chris told me they will be getting in yaks too! Not sure of the brand, I’m more of a motor guy myself. But probably worth asking anyway.

Are the owners of PSA local? Not that it’d really matter to me, I’m a Haddrell’s guy. Scott, Simon, Seth, and the rest of the gang are as good as it gets, and I’m willing to pay a little more for the way they take care of me. Sometimes it ain’t ALL about price…

Don’t if the owner is local or not. I do know it’s a South Carolina based company though. I do know the product on the shelves at PSA was made in the same country as the same product that’s on the shelves at Haddrell’s.

I definitely agree that good service is always worth a little extra money. Scott has always treated me right as have a couple of HPT guys for the most part. The good outweighs the bad. For me, it’s as simple as having more to choose from, at a good price, with good customer service. Guess I’m just not that high maintenance.

No need for you “Haddrell’s guys” to get all defensive. I don’t see Haddrell’s closing up shop anytime soon so there’s clearly enough business to go around. If there ain’t nothing to sweat, then don’t sweat it, I always say.:sunglasses:

HPT w/ Scott and the gang.

Start SMALL though, and collect over a year or so as you see what you like.

Also, for the same money as a hobie, you can get a beater jonboat of CL and fish 100x as much water as a kayak.

so is Walmart’s same products…but 100% agree, service and experience sell the products…and getting service, experience and product from somebody who lives down the street from me? yep, that’s who gets my business…Haddrells hands down…

LMAO!!! I guess if being “local” dictates how well the product works, the fishing industry as a whole is screwed.

Second that!! Guess I’m just too old (aka fat and lazy) to paddle myself around when a more than willing outboard and/or trolling motor will do it for me.

HaHa! Touch? on the “Walmart” thing.

That said, regardless if the owner of PSA is a “local,” I’d be willing to bet the guys and girls working in the PSA Mt Pleasant store are. I doubt anyone is commuting from some far away land. Lol! What’s more important/relevant, have the owner be a “local” or have the people actually working there be local?

The funny thing is some of you cheering for HPT and/or PSA will be some of the same folks standing in line outside of Bass Pro during their grand opening when they come to town. LOL!!!

Maybe you should’ve read the rest of my post. I trust the people who work at Haddrell’s, and they take good care of me. I’d be lucky to find one knowledgeable person to help me at Walmart. What don’t you understand?

And I’m not one of those guys you’re talking about in regard to BPS. There’s a huge on at Concord Mills not too far from where I live, but I wait 'til I get to the Lowcountry to give my hard-earned money to people I know, like and trust. It’s called loyalty…

Lol!!! Settle down BB. No need to get personal. No one’s telling you where you can or can’t shop. Try decaf, brother. It’s called a sense of humor…

Besides, I was responding more to the situation as a whole (PSA and HPT). Deep breaths…in through the nose…out through the mouth…

Wasn’t fired up in the least, brother. And I usually don’t get personal; fact and common sense keep me from having to take shots at people. And they usually hang themselves…
