We are new to SC. Just moved to the upstate about 9 months ago and would like to visit Charleston. My husband is somewhat disabled in that he can’t walk too far or stand too long. He would like to do some surf fishing or pier fishing. We plan on staying at the Best Western Sweetgrass in Charleston. Where would the closest place be for him to fish that he might enjoy and have some luck at fishing? Thank you so much, you comments would be greatly appreciated.
Mt. Pleasant pier is easy access. People catch a variety of fish there its hit and miss. Breach inlet on the Sullivan’s side is a shorter walk and have caught a variety there aswell but again hit and miss. From what I hear folly pier is a really good spot but do not know accessibility for individuals with limitations. Hope this helps.

We live about 3 hours away from Charleston, but would love to take you sometime, we only fish inshore or the jetties at most. But we would certainly love to help out. We have recently been helped ourselves with a friend and want to pass along the good Karma from Gage Sadie Beth owner. Contact me via private message.

I was in town in early July and asked the folks at the MP pier if they could transport my brother with breathing problems to the end- no problem, no cost other than $8 license fee- happy to do it!!
Both the Mt. Pleasant pier and Folly Beach pier are rather long and he might not like the long walk. Folly pier is DEFINITELY the more productive of the two.
Breech Inlet as mentioned above is a much shorter walk than the other two if you don’t mind a little sand. I prefer to get there at low tide and fish as it rises. Get there early!!! Otherwise you will not get a good parking spot, it fills up very quickly.

folly pier also has a golf cart.they will give you a ride and bring you back if you call them.also a separate restroom.

Yeah I forgot about the golf cart, and I think the Mt. P has such a cart as well. I would think they could help you out.
Also, the Folly Pier has better protection from rain. For whatever insensible reason, the Mt. P pier made the canopies over the seating areas slatted, so that they offer you absolutely NO protection from the rain. Folly pier has covered benches that will keep you somewhat dry unless the rain starts blowing sideways.
If you have your own wheels to be mobile with, you could park at the Pitt Street fishing pier. It’s free, but it’s also a long walk, but it’s free parking, no admission fee, totally paved up to the pier, and can sometimes be as productive as Folly pier (slightly different fish mix, it sits over flowing creeks rather than open beach).
PM me and I’ll give you directions to it (it’s on Google Maps pretty easily). But you’ll want your own wheels— either a wheel chair or similar.
