Anyone have any opinions on the most versatile and reliable shotgun for under $600 new? Would like to be able to hunt doves, ducks, turkeys, and deer with it. Considering the Baikal mp-153 and Berretta 3901 after some reading.
I have a Mobsberg 835 that I will never get rid of. I got it camo dipped last year and love it even more.

You are the offspring of 5 monkeys having But Secs with a retarded fish squirrel. CONGRADULATION!!!
Remington 870 is my favorite for reliable and versatile.

benelli supernova. i am still kicking myself for getting rid of mine.
at that price point i’d rather have a nice pump rather than a cheap semi-auto.
I like the 870. Every now and then you can find a new 1187 for that price. Both are great guns. I own one of each and have used and abused them both and they keep on going bang. Mind you that these are not my first choices for a shotgun but cant beat the reliability and price of either.
The supernova is a great gun also. I just didn’t like the feel or look of the front slide.
Scout 185
Check sites like Buds or GB for used. Also hit the classifieds on here and other outdoor sites like SC Ducks. Finally hit the pawn shops and dicker with them a bit. You can find a nice 1187, Franchi Affinity, Beretta, Browning, Winchester or similar that way. Nothing wrong with used guns that have a few scratches but are in good working order. Seldom do tupperware stocked guns gain much in value, there’s collecting guns and there are using tools. Be patient, something will pop up that suits you. Don’t buy a shotgun based on price so much as one that “fits” you well.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I would go with a good quality pump vs a cheaper semi-auto. I have an Mossberg 835 that I started shooting when I got into duck hunting and it has been swimming at least 10 times when I was figuring out walking in waders, in cypress swamps. As haz-r-dous said, they are awesomely tough guns, but kick like a mule when shooting 3.5 BBs at geese, but I have never had a shell hangup or FTF with it.
My buddy has a supernova that he uses as a boat paddle, push pole, walking stick that has also been run through the ringer. It is spray painted to conceal it but doesn’t give him any trouble. He hunts saltwater pretty regular and even though there is surface rust on the barrel where the coating has been scratched off, it still functions flawlessly.
I have another buddy who shoots the Beretta Outlander and it is a good less expensive auto, but I think probably right outside your price range.
Thanks for all of the comments. Going to head to some gun shops and see if I can find something I like and go from there.
fishcrazy; Were you wanting to shoot deer with Buck Shot or did you want a separate Slug Barrel?
600 bucks… Browning BPS
Word to the wise, if you go with the 870, get the super mag so you shoot 3.5s! And id get the camo. I got the regular barrel and my buddy has the super mag. You may not think you’ll need it but it’ll come in handy

Easy-I would more than likely just be shooting buckshot.
fishcrazy; that is going to be a hard gun to find! From Dove to Deer is a stretch for any gun. What choke would you go with? Modified?
Easy-Yeah I understand that it will be hard to find the perfect gun for all scenarios. Been using an old mosberg pump for years and it has done its job. Full choke for turkeys and deer, modified for doves/small game. Between paying for grad school and working for the state, I do not have enough to purchase multiple guns!!
I’ve got a Win Mod 1200 with the Win chokes, but I’m afraid to fire slugs through it even with the improved cylinder choke in it. It would probable work fine but I won’t take the chance of blowing the end of the barrel off!
I looked all over for a long time and was wanting the same thing. My thing was how much deer hunting I wanted to do with it and ended up going with the 870 express. The combo comes with a rifled slug barrel with a cheap scope that easily mounts and comes with a 28" field barrel with a modified choke. At dicks they have a green stock and fore end made especially for thier store. I agree in shopping local over this place but with so much shopping around word got out to family I wanted one and someone got it for me instead of what I was going to get in the winchester SXP but I couldnt be more pleased with the way this gun shoots and looks. Atlantic game and tackle seemed to be pretty good too.

You can’t kill an 870. Mine has been swimming probably 10 times in the last 2 years duck hunting and never a problem with it
