I never liked sushi until about a year ago but started warming up to it. Recently my wife and I took the kids to Party Kingdom on James Island and tried the sushi from Quyen the restaurant in the front of the building. It is by far the best that I have tried but I am now wondering who really has the best around… also have tried J paulz and bushido but they arent in the same league! Any suggestions?
Tsunami MP has some decent sushi. Wed is half price app night and there is a good bit of stuff you can order from…Bambu in MP has REALLY good food but you better pack your checkbook for that place.
Hands down Shi Ki (sp?). Located on E. Bay by Ted’s Butcher Block and Blockbuster.

a second for shi ki, great food!
When I got caught with my hand down my pants at school, I had to keep it there for a week…what a week!!
agreed on the shiki, very traditional when it comes to the sushi, he lets the fish’s freshness do the talking, and its in a small hole so he can keep prices down. somehow wasabi gets best sushi every year but its garbage. I will say oku, oak steakhouse’s new joint on king, is very good, but pricey. understood though a very expensive location, fish flown in daily from japan and hawaii, and a world renoun sushi chef

shiki’s good dt.
oriental garden in mt. p is good but to be honest I like it better later in the week if you know what I mean.
Tsunami is always a safe bet.
Bambu ain’t bad either.
Matt
Just tried Zen Asian Fusion in W.A. The sushi is good.

Not worth the price, try Miyabis or Sakura if your looking in West Ashley.

How about Oaku dt? I know its the same owner as Oak Steak house so I know its pricy but I imagine its awesome. Anyone tried yet?
Shi Ki is excellent but my favorite is Osaka on Folly Rd… Always consistent and they have excellent service.
Not around the coastal area YET, but TakoSushi has the best sushi I have ever had and the whole idea is unique. Sushi and japanese menu on one side…mexican tex-mex menu on the other side.
read alittle deeper buddy, oku is hands down best sushi in charleston with a close second to shi ki but really pricey and a direct relation with their location, decor and hotness of girls working there… id go back, but shi ki sees me two two times a week

#28 (Folly) has the best unagi.
Oriental Garden is good, and has some serious talent on the serving end!

Mei Thai across from market st. saloon behind northwoods mall. very good. very nice people. i don’t do the rolls. i like the nigiri. but, they have lots of them and are happy to make special rolls on request.i like it because it’s a small privately owned place.
Boat cockpit 15 minutes after a hoo, tuna, or as Edisto Fisher showed me last week, a silver snapper is boated. Wasabi and soy is all you need. If you want to get fancy bring sushi fixins to roll your own.

I’ve “heard” that Oku isn’t any better than anywhere else…and not as good as some. I really don’t know as I’ve not been there…and with the prices, I probably won’t.
We’ve not found what we consider a good sushi place in the Charleston area. Still looking, but just not there yet.
We’ll likely give Shi-ki a try.
One last thing…we give zero props to either Tsunami or Wasabi. Way too “hip” to be good.
The lesson I have taken from this thread is; if you are not on a fishing boat, and it isn’t after midnight…Shi Ki
