Best technique and bait for fishing creeks

I have small Jon boat with a trolling motor so my options for fishing are limited so I’m going to stay around Steamboat and Russel creeks. What is the expected bite out there and what sort of setup do I need? Thanks all!!

Also, when is the best side of the tide to go out there?

last 2 hours of the falling first 2 hours of the rising

There are fish there to catch there it is not rocket science and you do not need to know anyone’s secrets. Your boat is just fine and the trolling motor will help. Here it is quickly.

You must have a cast net, practice using it in your yard, it does not have to be real large.

Put in before or near low tide so you can see the structure and find bait, as long as the water is moving you can catch fish but fishing higher tides require knowledge of what is under the water. So once you have fished a few days, fish a falling tide, it is good too.

Put in at Steamboat and go to the right about 1/2 mile and cast for bait (on the left), it is there. Or go past the first dock at Russell Creek on the left the first 1/4 there is bait. Make sure you keep it alive.

Have two rods set up. One with a float to fish nearer the shore. Another with a carolina rig, I like the lightest weight I can get away with, as the water moves more quickly, you might have to add a bit of weight. If you have another rod, put a jig of some kind on it. Trout trick, gulp shrimp or something, not sure it always matters.

Pick a creek, there are fish in all of them. Pick a dock with running water, a hole, an eddy or anything that catches you eye, think like a fish. Fish for ten minutes, if you have no fish, go to the next likely spot. We know the area well and sometimes we fish seven, eight or nine places before we find the fish, that is normal.

I rarely anchor and use my trolling motor since we move quite a bit.

Please keep only what you will really eat, the bigger red fish are our future.

Have fun!

Thanks all!
