Where is the better surf fishing at this time of year, Murrels Inlet, IOP, or South Myrtle Beach? I just want to get my rods wet really. Bringing all my rods, even the big 12’ft with dreams of catching a shark this late but who knows… might get lucky. Ill be staying in Georgetown but want to fish where they are catching em.
I think any beach will produce especially once the mullet run kicks in. It’s more about your spot on that particular beach and your bait choice and presentation. Sharks are still around for 4-6 weeks depending on water temps

Thanks for the input. Im coming down this weekend and was just curious as to where people are catching them. As far for sharks, day or night? Im new to surf fishing. I have a solid shark rig but dont know much about anything else. Any and all input would be wonderful.
With the mullet come the sandbars, duskies, blacktips and spinners, historically. Should be ample biters around. We have landed nice sized 7+ ft. Sandbars into the 2nd week of November off the jetties at MI. Lots of sharpies, blacknose and finetooths around in the surf for spinning gear as well. Get a hold of a few live 6-10 inch mullet and put one out live on the bottom past the breakers on a large surf rod. Won’t take long.

Much appreciated. Ill be wading out and casting in the surf. Hopefully i can get my line out far enough with the 6 oz weight.

How do i go about getting the mullet? Cast net, rod and reel, or do most places sell em. I know they have the frozen mullet.
-
What kinda rig can I use for redfish or anything in the surf?

Also in regards to the shark i got a rig set up with a circle hook that was labeled 13/0 but upon further inspection at some local stores it appears to be no bigger than an 8/0. They are different brands. I was wondering if the 8/0 would be big enough. Keep in mind im not trying to hook jaws but would like to have a hook big enough to hold with whatever bites. Thanks for the responses
Most of the time you really don’t even need to step foot in the water, the sharks are much closer than you think. I have lobbed a bait 15 ft in front of my at my ankles and hooked up on some decent blacktips pushing 6’. I have seen lemons cruising so close I could run and grab their tails. Knee deep and you may just catch one!

Cast net the mullet, then a 5 gallon bucket to keep em in. We have had 8-10 5-6’ blacktips and spinners landed on a single tide doing this with large spinning rods. Just hook em thru the upper back and wade out. 3=-4 ft. of leader is sufficient for this fun. If you lose some ( you will), just have several rigs made up. You can use a sliding sinker , a fixed sinker or nothing. Chuck it out over the breakers and it won’t take long. Have fun!
Like Stanjwarren said, you don’t have to throw too far. Had between 5-6 foot what I think was a black tip swim between my girlfriend and I while we were standing in calf deep water fishing at Sullivan’s Island a few weeks ago.
Thanks for the input fellas. You got my confidence up. Hopefully Ill catch something nice enough this weekend to post. Any input on surf fishing for reds, blues, or whatever else is biting?
FYI… Below is my shark rig.
10/0 Circle hook
18 inch Double #19 wire tied with haywire twist
#6 Snap lock and 6 oz pyramid sinker
2-4/0 crane swivels
6 ft 400lbs mono.
Rig looks good…too good. Its over kill for almost anything you can cast to. I’d back down to single #15 to increase the chance of hookup. Stans 12’3 tiger came in on single #15. As long as the haywire is decent, even #12 is plenty. You’ll also want to get some sputnik sinkers. Bigger baits get pulled down the beach in the current. A 4oz sputnik will do the work of a 10oz pyramid.
Folley beach is good spot at high tide. Go to the very end of state park. There is a small tidal pool with plenty of bait. The surf down in front of pool is good at high tide . Nice reds .good luck
