Big Boats Fling Down the ICW - SLOW DOWN

Probably wasting my time but here goes anyhow.

Fishing in my small boat by the docks and big boat after big boat going full speed down the ICW. I’m hanging on for dear life by the big wake.

SLOW DOWN

Sad but these many of these people don’t care.

You do know what the intended use of the ICW is for don’t you?

Maybe don’t fish in a waterway that is intended for travel?

I feel your pain!! Fishing the Stono especially during the summer months when the recreators are out and about, is a real challenge. The wakes knock you all over the place. But, there’s not anything you can do about it. It’s not a ‘no wake’ zone’ so no one will slow down for small boats fishing the sides of the river.

I was fishing in a regulated no wake area with state stickers on the no wake signs.

Also was fishing in the area of a ramp with boats going in and out.

Did not make any difference. Big boats still blowing on by.

Some of them creating 3 feet of wake.

I repeat again. Big boats SLOW DOWN.

Flyinghigh thanks for the opportunity to take you ICW quiz. I know more about the ICW then you could ever inform me.

And FishingDuo GFY.

A couple big boaters thinking their righteous.

Yeah the wappoo cut is the worst. Its more like wappoo race way. Its like everyone in a mid size center console is trying to figure out their max speed.

Big guy over here. Go complain to your local rep, fishing forums aren’t the place buddy. We all deal with same issues, and most just fish in areas it will not be an issue…

It used to really be interesting when there was lots of tug+barge traffic on the ICW. Those 5’ displacement wakes were real tough. They would lift a jon boat 5’ and then suddenly you’d be on the bottom and not be able to see over the next one.

I hope you washed your hands before typing that.

I do not get your joke…

Just a poke about the gfy remark:smiley:. Happy Easter to all.

Ever try to water ski over one of those plowing sporty wakes? I tried it. Once.

Video cameras hadn’t been invented yet…would have been epic funny…to some, but not to me.

WOW!!! I guess that’s what you two get for spouting commonsense, flyinghigh and fishingduo. LOL!!!

JOTL, if you’re going to participate on public forums, you might want to get a thicker suit of armor. I don’t know if you were expecting to get a response that would put an end to you ICW woes but given your response, I wouldn’t expect much in the way of “assistance” from many people moving forward. The two comments in question were merely stating the obvious. This is an issue that anyone that has ever fished on the ICW has dealt with and will continue to deal with. Fishermen on the ICW are the small fish in the “big pond” that is the ICW. I doubt your post is going to get more DNR or US F&G officers posted up on the ICW to make sure boats are giving you the smooth water you need for a relaxing day of fishing. The way I see it, you have two options. You can either come to grips with reality or you can find somewhere else to fish. Granted, since you apparently know all there is to know about the ICW, I doubt my advice will come across any more well-received than the comments you’ve already so eloquently responded to so take it for what it’s worth to you. Good luck to you on your quest to better the ICW for all anglers.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

Every one of you *****ing about his post would be the same ones *****ing if a big boat came plowing through while you were fishing IN A NO WAKE ZONE.

Regardless of your thoughts on what the ICW is for, a NO WAKE ZONE is just that. Your opinions on OP or on big boat operator is irrelevant.

If you’re in a big boat, in a NO WAKE ZONE, SLOW DOWN. What’s wrong with that?

The beautiful thing about an opinion is the fact that none of them are irrelevant. Not even yours stating that everyone else’s opinions are irrelevant.

This is nothing new with the ICW. To whine about it is like getting into a boxing ring with the champ and whining about getting punched. I’m not saying people shouldn’t adhere to posted no wake zones but we all know it happens all day everyday on the ICW. No different than people exceeding posted speed limits but I don’t see anyone whining about that. Yes, dealing with the big wakes while fishing on the ICW sucks out loud, and can be dangerous, but you should know what you’re in store for before you hit the ICW to fish. To not expect it is most definitely one of those “here’s your sign” moments.

Personally, if I were going to b1tch to anyone about “a big boat plowing through,” it would be to the operator of the big boat and/or to LE personnel that could actually do something about it. Regardless, I sure as hell wouldn’t come to a public forum, where no one can do anything about my quandary, and poke out my bottom lip and stomp my feet about it and then get butt hurt when someone slaps me in the face with reality and commonsense.

But hey, if you feel coming on here and telling those mean old big boat operators (that apparently can’t read no wake signs so it’s a stretch to assume they’ll read your posts on a public forum) to “slow down” is going to make it all go away, knock yourself out. Let me know how that works out for you.

HAHAHA!!! Read through that and still can’t find where I was asking any of those people (not that I ask them anything) to slow down. I asked “why bother” buying a fast car if you’re not going to drive fast. Nice try though. Solid “C” for effort. Pat that grade schooler on the head for me and tell them I said thanks for helping you find that information but better luck next. If at first you don’t succeed, keep on sucking 'til you do suck seed.

You were b1tching about their driving. If you dont like it, b1tch to them or law enforcement, but for sure dont come on a public forum and do it.

HAHAHA!!! Your persistence is so cute. Here, let me try to help. Knowing the actual topic of my post, I’ll try to dumb this down since your self-serving reading comprehension is failing you.

I complained about people owning “high performance car” driving them like a pace car at a funeral precession. I asked “why bother” owning that type of car if you’re not going to drive it in a manner it was intended to be driven. To make a correlation between my post and OP’s post, OP would’ve had to complain about people driving boats capable of throwing big wakes but not throwing any wake at all.

But again, your stick-to-it-iveness is admirable. You should be proud of yourself. No, really.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

I was always taught that you are responsible for your own wake whether or not you are in a wake zone and that you could be liable for any damages from your wake if it could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Also, it sounds like this guy was in a no wake zone, he should probably slow down. One time i saw a 120’ boat (give or take a few feet ib length) steam at around 25 knots about 40’ from a floating dock on the ICW. Caused a breaking wave to go over top of the dock and knock chairs off of it. No doubt there are some inconsiderate boat owners out there.
