Been working on my boats for months with no fun on the water. So took my best fishing buddie to the river on Sunday to do some cat fishing. Put out a little e and within 30 minutes the fight was on. Another 25 minutes and I pulled this in the boat. Man I love fishing! Got a weight on it and back to some meat fishing.

I decided to keep the washdown hose in his mouth till I got to the scales and throw him back. To big to eat but a blast to catch!

By releasing it and letting it live you gifted someone else the chance to get the same feeling you got. Nice catch and major props for not killing it.

It’s not the ideal way to weigh a fish for sure. Some type of sling would be best.

I disagree. A non native species that has decimated redbreast populations should not be put back. Keep every flathead you catch.

Good call on the flat heads. We used to catch red breast by the bucket full in the 70’s.

Not sure what river it was caught in, but SCDHEC has a “DO NOT EAT ANY” consumption advisory for the Flatheads in the Edisto. We used to go catch them on bush hooks until they issued the advisory. Have caught many over 50 lbs. there years ago so I’m sure there are plenty pushing 100 lbs. there now.

Agree and disagree ;SCS&G is the polluter by way of lax regulations or enforcement set by the politicians/government , but it is WE the voter who by way of our votes put the azzs in office that allow the pollution. They seldom if ever see or even care about polluting our waters. The real problem is that; WE THE VOTER SEE THE POLLUTION AND PUT THEIR AZZS BACK IN OFFICE MOST EVERY ELECTION TIME AND TIME AFTER TIME… THEREFORE IT IS WE/US THAT ALLOW IT TO CONTINUE!!![:0][:0][:0][:0]>>>>>TERM LIMITS ARE NEEDED IMHO</font id=“size5”></font id=“red”><<<<<<<:imp:

Hey HT…not sure if you were aware but the current SC state record for flatheads is 79.6 lbs. By releasing it without someone from DNR present to confirm the weight it can’t go into the record books, but still something to hang your hat on. Congrats on an awesome catch!
Mind me asking what river it came out of?
