Birthday Present to Myself-12/8 Report

Wife always asks me what I want to do for my birthday and I always answer, “Go fishing”. So, made it down for my annual present to myself and wanted to fish Friday and Saturday, but only got to get out Saturday morning. Overcast and raw winds out of the NE made for a cool outing with only two other boats at Live Oak. Stayed on the leeward side of the creeks as much as possible and had fun with the spottails on shad assassins and Gulps. Lost two in structure that never slowed down when they hit. Trolled some for trout but only caught 4 13-14" fish. Had a large one hooked but it came off near the boat. Called it a day just before the rain started. Always good to get on the water even when the weather is nasty. Water temp 54-55 degrees. Clear near the ocean but stained back in the creeks.

Kudos for getting out. I can see live oak from my house and only saw one boat Saturday afternoon, and no boats from the sound side. Glad the fish cooperated after that effort.

Hard to get a better birthday present than that! I’d heap rather have a good day in the creek than a big party.
