Every year we do a trip in March to the nearshore reefs for sheepshead. This year we tried to do the same, and for the first time in my life I could not get a fiddler crab to the bottom for more than a half a second before hooking up with an “endangered” BSB. I had heard this was the case, and you hear guys talk about them being over populated now, but its hard to realize it until you see it with your own eyes, and maybe if some of these council members could see it, they would understand. I mean EVERY single fiddler crab that I put on a hook brought back a seabass, and I don’t mean the 8-11" that sometimes get mixed in there, I’m talking MINIMUM 15" fish… averaging 16-17 inches. For the first 5 minutes it was funny, until you realize you just burned 50 gallons of fuel and can’t take anything home with you. Whats the status of the bill that Goldfinch introduced?
Welcome to OUR world. Quotas will be changing (for the better) for the upcoming season, but I doubt the season will start any sooner than it has in the last few years which in June 1.
Can start taking them home June 1st!
