Bloodworms

Are bloodworms used in this area for surf and pier fishing? I’m new to surf fishing in this area and was wondering what bait is the most used.

Not many people use bloodworms so far as I can tell. They’ll work for sure on little stuff (spots seem to love em, in my experience) but most folks use shrimp since it works better and gives you a better chance at bigger fish.

I grew up fishing Cherry Grove to Myrtle beach. Years ago when I started fishing the low country, I stopped at Crosbys for bait. “Do you have blood worms?” the nice lady said “no”. “Where is the closest place to get them?” her exact answer, " Uhh…Myrtle Beach?" It was funny. Since I’ve been in Charleston I use fresh shrimp 95% of the time. Every thing will bite it.

“If it were catching, Everyone would be good at it.”

What about squid and live minnows? Both were deadly on the fish in New Jersey and Virginia.

Thanks for the replies. Shrimp it will be. Knew bloodworms were used in the OBX area. Didn’t know if they were used here.

I used blood worms yesterday at Cherry Grove Pier. They cost 12.00 now, back in the day they use to be 4.00. But I caught some nice spot and croaker with them. Shrimp will work also but bloodworms will get to a hit as soon as it hits the water.
