has anybody been catching any using their pots? I would like to have some to steam while I am fishing this weekend but don’t want to waste my time w/ putting the pot out if there aren’t any. thanks.
they arent really catching alot now. My buddies at edisto seafood are only catching a bushel or two out of 20 or 30 pots. your best bet would be to go by there and just buy some. good luck on the fish
thanks. I will do that. just getting out of the office and wetting a hook will do me just fine.
Flowers Seafood should have some.
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
I put out a pot last month and only got six keepers, but it was enough for a nice dinner (along with a mess of whiting). It was my first attempt at crabbing, so I’m not sure what kind of numbers are normal for a good catch.

if yaull like them they have some live softshell crab at edisto seafood. we fried some up tonight.
Man, I can’t do the soft shell thing. I accidentally ordered a sushi roll with soft shell in it one time. They called it a Carolina roll, didn’t have a description (by the way it’s usually a good idea to know what’s in the sushi you get, unless you’re the type that would rather not know what you’re eating:smiley:) Anyway they served this thing with legs hanging out of the dang roll and I didn’t know what the heck it was until I asked someone.

82, so glad to hear that Edisto has the fresh ones. I love them especially the fresh ones. The only ones I could find were at Flowers and they are good even the frozen ones.
Chum, don’t give up on them. I used to think the same way. However, I pan fry them w/ very little olive oil and butter w/ only a dusting of flour w/ salt and pepper. then make up a lemon/butter sauce w/ capers to pour over them. I promise you will like them. I quit deep frying them b/c I don’t like a lot of batter.
i think Bobby sold out of the soft shells over the weekend but he will most likely have them for another couple of weeks. another good thing about the ones he had they were all females. male crabs molt faster and there shells tend to be a little hard when you eat them. Oh and Chum listen to texusc. Soft Shell crabs are one of the tastiest things to come out of the ocean. It will be worth it to give them a couple more tires.
Have to say that the pic of the K-9 on Edisto82 signature is one of the coolest pic’s I think I’ve ever seen. That needs to be framed and over the fireplace!
Thanks for the complament that is my choclate lab ace. He is a pretty good pup. That pic was taken 1 year ago and the crazy part is i took it with my cell phone. I was actually helping my buddy from Edisto Seafood run his traps that day.
I like this pic of him better.
I take you and Ace out crabbin’, you get a great pic of him in the boat, and i get no credit. Runnin out of gas wasn’t such a bad thing after all. Too bad we ran out of oat-soda too.

I tired to edit it to say that but you beat me to it by 54 seconds. (I was going to leave the running out of gas part out for your sake) also before fontaine says anything the second pic was taken at his dock and we didnt run out of the wheat soda that day and I was the only on to catch a sheep. You still bartending tommorow.
I’m not bartending tomorrow, but def headin over there to shoot some pool. last day of classes tomorrow, got a final at 2 then i’ll be on my way down.

Yeah I think this was just a bad crab that was starting to get its shell back. It was like eating a shrimp with the peel on[:0]

Caught a crab yesterday with a gulp shrimp on a jig head. It didn’t let go until it got to the boat. Was not expecting that. I thought I had a little trout on or something. LOL.

I’ll take a Soft shell crab sandwich over a steak any day of the week and as for the shell you had on yours… dont know what to tell ya mine have never had a tough shell on them. There used to be a resturant on hwy 21 in Beaufort that had AWSOME soft shell sanwiches.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit around with his buddys drinking on the beach for hours !! ><((((º> J
