Blues in July

I need a little help. I am going to be in Edisto during the end of July with my boat. My dad keeps telling me stories of how much fun he had catching blues on the Chesapeak(sp) Bay growing up and I would like to try to find some so he can “re-live” old tmes. Can anyone tell me where to look during that time for them? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i don’t know of one particular spot where you will catch a whole bunch of blues, but i catch a lot of them in the surf during the summer. i’ve also caught a bunch of them at the b can. they usually bite best on cut mullet or whiting.

we use to catch them at a bar weve always called the bluefish bar its about a mile or two from the a can towards frip. you can see it on a chart fairly easily

We have found them around the area of the Edisto 40 reef. Just watch for the birds at daybreak. They will push baitfish to the top and you can ease up to them and cast spoon/jigs or troll spoons behind a small planer, kinda like fishing for spanish. We found them last year at the Whitewater reef in front of HHI. They were a blast to catch. If you can’t find the blues, the spanish should be good then. Your dad may enjoy that.

Blue fish bar is the best spot…troll with white grubs and small spoon with weight. BEWARE of the breaking waves on the bar,. ALWAYS have someone at the wheel watching the waves and NOT fishing. many people have been thrown out of the boat here. best to fish on 3/4’s - high tide.

Last Friday afternoon we trolled all around the edisto 40 with spoons on planers, and almost everytime we would go over structure the rods would tip up and we caught at least 15 blues that way.
