Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Mine is through Progressive and this is what my bill was last April.
$324/year on a 2006 22’ ProSports with 200 Suzuki and trailer. (agreed value of $30,000)
$197/year on a 2000 17’ Key West with 115 Evinrude and trailer (agreed value of $6,500)
Bodily Injury Liability is $250K each person/$500K each accident
Property Damage Liability is $100K each accident
Medical payments $2,500 each person
Sounds a tad high. I second what Salty said, check with some of the folks here on CF.
Seaworthy.
Strickland Marine Ins. is who I went through, they found the best price for me.
2006 176 Keywest with 115 220 a year and that was last years price so I would say thats a little high.
Strickland is the best for marine insurance.

Better price than mine smaller boat and smaller engine.
I have travelers and paying 135.00 more a year PM who you went through.
Hey next time wave at me with all your fingers.
Traveller’s for 2/3 that price and 1/3 more value. Includes a towing reimbursement.
Deadmullet,
I got your PM, and I’m going to call you this AM. I don’t yet know all your details, but speaking generally (not officially), I can tell you that premium is based primarily upon (1) the history of the owner, (2) the kind of coverage you have (ACV, AV, RC), (3) the value, age, and type of the hull, and (4) the limits you select. So, a premium is not going to always be the same for every customer with a given company, even if the boats are the same (especially with an company like Progressive, whom we represent, who rates people based on many things such things, as credit history). With that being said, based on the small amount of information you’ve given here, it DOES look like you are getting taken for a ride, sir. I’ll call you in a few minutes, per your PM, and we’ll see how badly we can barbeque that premium of yours. Thanks.
The timing for this thread is in due season. We represent the Travelers and Progressive, along with about 30-35 other companies–some of which are more competitive than either of them for certain boats–and we see some become more or less competitive in certain areas than others as time goes by. Travelers used to be cheaper for just about everyone on just about everything, and Progressive used to be way too expensive for just about everyone and everything, but those two are closing in on each other, and in some cases, they’ve crossed.
Travelers is still often (if not usually) better and cheaper than Progressive, though; for example, I recently quoted a boat at approximately $550 with Travlers, and Progressive was about $750. So, Progressive has gotten better in SOME situations (depending on the owner’s history and several other factors), but they are often still way too high compared to some other companies.
Rates regularly change in the insurance world. Insurance companies change their rates from time to time, especially in the marine insurance world; new programs come out, and the best rates for any given boat or owner often shift from one insu
Taylor Agency 881-7822, has been around Chas. for years, they carry Travelers as well.
another local insurance company if you want to compare.
I love a challenge, and I get a serious kick out of hearing people trip out when I cut their premium in half. Just did that again for a guy this morning.
Guys, I’m serious: if you have a pleasure boat, give me a call, and I will give you 4 or 5 quotes from different companies, including the Travelers and Progressive, and I will bet you lunch that one of my programs will beat the Travelers and every other company badly enough, with better coverage and a lower premium, to make you very happy. If I can’t win your business the good, old-fashioned way, your lunch is on me, and you have no obligation to me whatsoever. I’ll be thankful for the mere opportunity to earn your business by saving you money and showing you how customer service ought to be.
Gotcha Covered,
