Boat mechanic in Edisto ?

Towed the boat down today and I seem to have developed an electrical problem between home and here. Guages come to life when I turn the switch on but none of the accessory switches work. No horn, no courtesy lights, etc. Anyone in Edisto that could fix that or lead me in the right direction ?

Thanks
Greg

Check your ground at the battery. Sounds like corrosion or bad connection.

Thanks Tigerfin. I actually switched to a new battery that I brought down with me and I know that I tightened both the hot and the ground pretty good. Same results with the new battery. Seems that I have power everywhere except those accessory switches on the console. Gotta be something loose or corossion somewhere. I did come through some heavey rain around Columbia. Don’t know if that did me in or if the rough road shook something loose. I appreciate the reply !

Hard to say without seeing…how is boat setup?? Accessory items are likely fed by seperate hot and ground wire from battery. There may be a circuit breaker between battery and the accessory panel. These circuit breakers fail sometimes, but are easy to replace. Wish I could be more help. I’ll respond with other if you learn more or can describe details.

The only thing you can do is start troubleshooting the wiring from the accessory panel back to the battery with a meter or a test light. It could be a blown fuse, circuit breaker or just a connection that worked loose. There usually is a fuse block under the console that should have 12v to it. If not, then find out why.

There is a circuit breaker for each switch on the accessory panel. None of those seem to be tripped. There is also a thermal circuit breaker under the bilge cover in the back. Not sure what that is for. Probably a main fuse or breaker somewhere in that bundled up mess of wiring under the console. I’ll look again tomorrow. Thanks for your replies and suggestions. I hope I didn’t pull that boat for 4 hours and not get to use it !

Wish we still had Richard on the island, sure miss his help, for a case of bud, he rebuild your carbs!

May have to drag it to Charleston or maybe Columbia I guess.

I sent you a pm.
