Boat Ramp

The family and I will be heading to St. Helena in July and I would like suggestions on which boat ramp to use. We will be staying off US 21 (Sea Island Parkway) within about 5 minutes of Hunting Island. I hope to make a day trip to Beaufort by boat (weather permitting) and possibly locate a place to beach the boat and let the kids swim. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Russ Pt. landing is just before the Fripp Is. bridge and is a nice ramp. You can go under the Fripp bridge and there are is a sand bar on the left that we pull up to. The other option is Station Creek landing off of Seaside Rd. Bull Pt. is not far from the ramp and a great place to pull up to the beach.

This is the nicest ramp closest to where you describe you are staying. Quite a long boat ride to beaufort though, but close to good fishing and sandbars for swimming.

There is a way out to the S.West from Station Creek Landing that would make for a shorter trip to Beaufort.

You could shorten the ride even further by putting in at the Wallace landing.

Also remember, any boat landing on the north side of 21 will put you in St. Helena Sound. Boat landings to the south side of the road will be for Port Royal Sound. I find Port Royal Sound to be better fishing than St. Helena Sound.

Eddings point. It’s on st Helena island. Right passed dawtaw. Turn at the school. Come out of the creek and hang a right. Large sandbar is on the left. You won’t be able to miss it. It’s a family atmosphere on that sand bar. You can let the kids go free. It’s also in front of Monkey Island. There’s a possibility you may see some early or late in the day. It’s also a good place to put in if you want to ride to Beaufort. Pretty easy. Not a short ride but it’s easy open water without having to make it through skinny water. Edisto is just across the sound also.

Thanks for the replies. This gives me plenty of options to do my due diligence. I have always been of the impression that St. Helena sound is really shallow but I haven’t really spent any time there besides shrimping the Edisto side. Any advice for running the sound?

A little trick that i found was going to google on your phone or computer and googling “Beaufort County Boat Ramps” or whatever county you’re interested in. Usually the first or second result is a google link that will pull up google maps and display pins for every boat ramp in the county. I’m sure a few landings get left off there, but it typically has all of the main ones. It’s a good tool for finding the best boat ramp to the body of water you wanna hit. Good luck, post a report on how you did when you finish up!

The sound isn’t deep. It gets shallow in spots but if you use your gps mapping you will be ok.

Reeldawg is dead on with his advice. Eddings pt is your best bet at dead low there is a drop off on the landing.

Station creek leads to some really nice areas. I have t been in there in a few years but should be gtg. Just look on google maps to see which direction to head. Little capers is really nice.

If you use station creek then be careful if you go to the right. There’s some really tight shallow spots.

Station Creek - go left. Goes out into Trenchards Inlet. More places to fish around there than you can hit in a week.

Thanks again for the info. I will give a report on the trip when I return. I have a 3,6 and 8 year old and would consider the trip a success if we can catch a few sharks, swim and do some riding. Which Creek should I enter if I want to try and catch a glimpse of some monkeys on Morgan Island? It looks like there are two main Creeks that run in on either side of the island.

Coosaw river side. Other side from the sand bar.

Monkeys- usually early or late in day. The south side of the island on Morgan River side is where I have seen them most often. There is a shallow point with a cove behind it. Several big 4x8 signs along the bank. The back side of that cove had a monkey in every tree last time we shrimped there. Up the creek on the Coosaw side you get to a dock on high ground where I have heard you can see them at times. Hint- they don’t like hot sun!!
