It’s my first summer here in Charleston.
How bad is the boat traffic over Labor Day? Assuming the weather is nice.
I’m on James island.
Thanks in advance
Joe

I’m amazed at the amount of totally clueless people on the water these days. People plowing down the waterway at 1/3 throttle almost on plane but not quite. People towing their kids on tubes in the waterway, I know, it’s legal so you should do it and you frigging guides think you own the water,(true story) but it isn’t logical. Pretty sure it is legal for you and your family to ride bikes on highway 17 but rarely do you see it. People that come into the inlets around Dewees and Capers that throw the biggest wake they can towards the 50+ boats on the beach not to mention the ones rafted together in the inlet that get slammed together…
End rant.

there are plenty of bike riders on hwy 17. makes for a fun Saturday morning heckling them and tossing water balloons. or so they tell me. ya gotta head towards the francis marion to get in em thick though.
Darn, forgot it was a holiday weekend. That’s unfortunate.

One of the times I stay OFF the water, plenty of other days in the year.
stay off of the water and go watch Summerville’s 4th of july firework display this sunday.
That’s about what I expected. Sounds like a good weekend for working on the boat.
I want to install my new baystar anyway.

I’ve been a cyclist for 30 years and for the last 21 in Charleston. I can personally guarantee that my small group obeys all rules of the road and sc law. we also seek out the quiet roads of the francis marion forest to avoid conflicts with automobiles on the busier city roads. if harassed by a motorist either by car or throwing objects from the car, it will be on video and you can expect charges to follow. the mere suggestion that you would put my life or my friends’ lives in danger for your own entertainment is a sick commentary on today’s society. you don’t have to understand what we do for pleasure, or sport or fitness, but you must understand that we are someone’s child, husband, wife or parent. I am michael bannister and I will be on seewee and doar road at 8am and steed creek at 8:30 this Saturday and throughout the year. don’t kill me.
he shoots. He scores .
I thought this discussion was about “BOAT TRAFFIC.” Hey PeaPod, go drive around Hanahan with your harassment idea, see how funny you can be on a police dash-cam.

I’m amazed natural selection doesn’t take it’s toll more often. It’s also legal to skydive and shove swords down your throat. I’m not gonna heckle any biker nor do I want to endanger or threaten anyone’s life but you have to understand you are partaking in a high risk activity. I have to say I chose not to do things like go offshore in a small craft advisory, drive without a seat belt, ride a crotch rocket, or play russian ruloutte. If anybody else wants to I understand it’s a free county. I still don’t understand how natural selection doesn’t take it’s toll more often though. That being said, if you go far enough outside of charleston, north or south the crowds are almost nil on holiday weekends. Rode down to beaufort on memorial day and passed almost no one once we were 2 or 3 miles out of Charleston.

I don’t really throw balloons. I was kidding
it takes paintball guns to hit him when you’re moving that fast
y’all try not to get your padded spandex biker panties in a wad
this is a touchy subject for me since one of the best people I’ve ever known was hit and killed 9 years ago while training for the Olympic trials by a driver blind in one eye and 20% vision in the other. he was a naval officer teaching nuclear reactor theory at the nuke sub school. the bike/pedestrian lane of the ravenel bridge is named in his honor. when I witness or hear of threatening behavior either in jest or with malice I get pissed.
he sounds like a good man . I’m sorry the blind naval teacher killed him
