Boats plundered at Fripp...

I learned today that someone snuck onto boats at Fripp Is. Marina and stole Yeti coolers, electronics and tackle. If anyone starts offering deals that are too good to be true…the item(s) may be stolen. I got this second hand, but if anyone hears more details, please add them.

That really sux. I hope they can figure out how to boost the security. Thats one of the things I like about Fripp. I got plans to be down there several times this fall. I don’t usually leave my tackle in the boat but have been leaving electronics and such.

They can put in at Hunting Island and come into the marina under cover of darkness.
Way too easy.

Not sure you can afford 24/7 monitoring of the dock.

The world we live in.

In our bass club we’ve learned the hard way not to leave the rig unattended … ever… while stopping for gas, snacks, etc. Several rods, coolers and some nice electronics have been lost that way. My father-in-law had a deep cycle battery stolen out of his boat while it was docked at his dock. Sad commentary on what some folks will do.

There’s allot people targeting electronics. So much so, that it made the news recently. I use RAM mounts, so I can easily remove mine if I need to leave it unattended in an unsure location. I can’t stand a thief!

Last year I had my Fripp sticker stolen off my truck. When I went to get a new one I told the people in the security office that my sticker had been stolen and their response was “Yeah it happens a lot”. I then asked why they don’t use the stickers that go on the inside of the windshield and they told me that “most people prefer the other kind”. If someone is willing to steal a sticker off my truck I think its safe to say that they would be the type of person to use the sticker to gain access to the island to steal other things. you just don’t know who these people are, thieves, child molesters, drug dealers, etc.

Yetis have become a regular target also. I talked to a guy in Charleston that had three stolen in a few weeks…two from his boat and one from his truck bed…that was locked with a steel cable. Bolt cutters make short work of chain and cable.
