I sure hope the billfish tourny is better organized. The “captains meeting” was the most unorganized mess I have ever been to. There is no excuse for typos on a final draft of a tournament rules sheet. I felt bad for the poor people having a rehearsal dinner at reds. Half of us walked into the middle of their little gathering smelling like diesel fuel and beer thinking it was the captains meeting because no one had really said anything otherwise on where to meet. For a tournament with this many boats…it should have been better handled.

How does that work? What about 3rd place? Shouldn’t they be contesting for 2nd? And what about Calcutta? Skinnee is right. Hold everything in escrow until everyone who payed an entree agrees on a solution.
The real payout in question is between 1st and 2nd. We weighed our 52 well before 6. That was the biggest fish. I don’t know if any other fish were weighed after 6 that would be in the top 3 other than the 62 that was weighed at 6:40 and put us in 2nd.
Paying 1st place money for 1st and 2nd would be good solution but we have a legit claim to the 1st place money.
Also, you can’t change the rules at the Capt meeting unless it’s stated in the rules/regs that attendance by a team member is mandatory (which it was not).

Not the rules say 6. The thing in the middle said 7 and the “tournament director” or whatever said 6 in the capts meeting. Im kinda pissed myself. If I knew we had till 7 I would of fished an extra hour instead of pulling lines when we did.

Go look back at the rules. It says scales open 3 to 7 then it says scales open 3 to 6. They addressed everyone Friday saying 6pm. Accept the fact someone screwed the pooch.
If you’re still not sure, go to the website. Under “Rules”, look at #2 which says scales are open from 3 pm -6 pm. No mention of calling in , being in line or anything of that nonsense. That’s what people signed up for.

It also ‘literally’ says 6 pm in the “rules” section.

Boo freaking hoo yea it’s sucks having a 52 pounder and thinking you got it won and then a 62 comes in and knocks ya out. Suck it up it sucks but that’s life and how it goes fishing tourneys. Whether the rules say 6 or 7 is whatever and the only reason there is a complaint is cause you lost would you be upset if you had the 62 pounder and the other team had the 52 and still weighed in before 7 and took second place would you be complaining then that they got second place and didn’t wiegh in before 6 I think not. Yes they screwed up on times but it is what it is the biggest fish won regardless of the two different time requirements congrats to both teams on nice fish
Just reel or get broke

Thanks for the insight, but you’re missing the point. Maybe next year we’ll fish with dynamite or long lines since the rules seem so flexible and just meant as loose guidelines.

I bet third place would be pretty upset. Whenever money is involved, you gotta play by the rules. Poker games don’t end well when rules aren’t followed, i know that much.
Tournaments have rules for a reason. What if a boat caught the winning fish 45 minutes before “lines in”. What if they caught a fish 10 minutes after “lines out”. What if they fished outside a designated area? Hell, how about they fished an entirely different day all together. Do you let them weigh in anyway and tell everyone else to suck it up, because they caught the biggest fish?
The rules were poorly outlined and there is no excuse for that. This wasn’t an expensive tournament so I didn’t expect a lot of frills. But basic rules, guidelines, and a schedule should have been in place.
Yea well I understand the two different times as being a problem but it’s not like they are totally in the wrong eather. If it’s me just pay the men their money and go on about our lives. Both teams in top weighed in at two different correct times I’ll take the given but still the biggest dolphin was 62lbs yea a difference of 6k for the second place winners and that sucks but who wants to win by a technicality anyway. Crappie job by the tournament committee for not fixing the issue but people are human and errors happen.like I said heck of a nice fish by both parties but the biggest fish is the winner in my book
Just reel or get broke
Marsh chicken you got two many what If’s. what if a team caught a 62lber and won on the time they thought was the correct time.
Just reel or get broke
Did noslack run the bohicket dolphin slam?

Sounds like it.
What if myself and everyone else that thought we had to be in by 6 got to fish an extra hour instead? Wonder what the other 75 boats could of caught?
Here’s my final thought. They need to fine tune things before next year. The people they assign to be on committee boats don’t need to be more concerned with drinking and fishing than doing their job. The docking situation needs to be address and the dang capt’s meeting needs to be mandatory and have freaking signs telling you where it is. Oh yeah…and proof read the dang rules for a set time not 2 or 3 or whenever we feel like it.
