bottom bumping on 4-10

We beat our way out to 90 ft. through 5 to 6 footers. It took us a while to get there but it was worth it. Caught a few limits of BSB’s 4 of “THE VERY RARE RED SNAPPER” and a pile of porgys and other bottom dwellers. Also one 30 lb AJ on the jig and two cutoffs to grouper.Saw three giant Cobia on the surface which was a suprise but they were not hungry. All in All a good day but cant wait to troll.

wasn’t there a SCA yesterday?

5-6 footers? Not even fun in a 50-60’ sportfisher…What boat were you in? Glad you had a good day. My 20’ doesn’t take nicely to waves 4’+…Neither does my body, mind or soul

Friday? It was SW 20 plus knots all day. Pretty sure it was an SCA that day too… you are fortunate…

I would think that was putting it mildly!
As Cracker said, you are fortunate for sure!!

yeh but they caught a limit of BSB… come on…

I was pulling out at Wappoo at the same time they were. They looked a little “wobbly” to say the least. I was fishing around the harbor and had to hold on to my hat at anchor. I can only imagine what it was like 10-20 miles out.:face_with_head_bandage::face_with_head_bandage::face_with_head_bandage::face_with_head_bandage:That is a lot of effort for bsb’s.

The Capt knows the limitations of his crew, and boat. I have fished the boat before, and never felt unsure, or unsafe about a trip.

I know alot of people on here like to chime in anytime someone puts up a Report and the condtions are less than favorable. In part I’d like to think it is partially to keep the new’ones at the dock, and out of harms way (due to inexperience). On the other hand though, there are still a few around that have fished Chas’s BIG POND sice they were knee high. If the Saftey Equip is up to par, and you have the patience to ride it out, roll on and catch um up.

Nice REPORT, and glad yall put a little stickn to the Red’ones, give me a shout…

Definitely not questoning their intelligence or seamanship. The boat was intact and they were all dry, just looked really tired. Just saying that it was a bad day in the harbor, so offshore must have been a real bear. To me, it wouldn’t have been worth it…but that’s me. More power to ‘em and keep catchin’ 'em up!!

A couple questions that come to my mind.

Do any insurance companies cover loss when a small craft goes out in a SCA?

Should the USCG be asked to risk their lives to save someone who goes out in a SCA in a small craft?

Will the pay for tow membership organizations go out in a SCA? If any accidents occur during the tow in a SCA, is there some sort of increased liability?

Who really cares what the weather was like? I’m just glad that the guy took the time to write a report.

We all talk as if we know this was a small craft…was it?

I did not state anything directly about the craft or boaters. I was just asking some general questions.

Polly Wanna…

I guess some people like fishing for red snapper so much that they’ll even go out during SCA’s.

:imp::wink:

I always try to get the boat in the water just as the SCA’s are being lifted…

What does that mean? Please explain how a SCA posted by NOAA has anything to do with getting permission from anyone on the tridub…

Polly Wanna…

Cracker, the way you and others put it, it sounded that you were the judge of when to go out, and that it was a sin what they did. That is small waves for some. Great job guys sounds like fun.

Local Boy, Just having fun.

I’m sorry, but I don’t see where this is accusatory. The conversation went to fishing during a SCA, and I can see where someone would have these questions. They’re all very good questions and are completely relevant to the topic at hand.

I’m just sayin…

Cracker, sorry you dont approve of me going out in the “SCA” but I dont recall asking you about that. Maybe you should try to hold a seminar on this off topic, topic that you seem to know so much about and see how many people show up to listen to your B.S. I would not put my crew or myself in what I thought would be a dangerous trip out to sea.Nor did I say that we tore the fish up or that we were’nt sore for a couple of days after. You do not know me and I think its best if you keep your comments regarding me or my crew to yourself. From now on I will make sure only to Post on flat calm days when we fill the box. Thanks everyone for reading between the lines
