My kids and I are in HH for the week. I want to take them out bottom fishing, but don’t want to go too far out. Is there any good bottom fishing nearshore going out of Calibogue Sound? Hoping the weather straightens out the end of the week to give us a shot. Thanks.
Salt Daze,
Buy a top spot map. I believe that there are some spots nearshore where the Broad river enters the ocean. I don’t have my map with me and I only own a kayak so keep that in mind. I don’t know how big your boat is and what you’re comfortable doing.
There are a few artificial reefs straight out of calibogue sound. I can’t remember the name of the first one but it’s about 5 miles out. The water is really warm right now so the fishing is slow there. The next one out is tire reef. Its about 12 miles out.
The 5 mile reef out of Calibogue is the “Whitewater Reef”.
Second reef would be the “HH or Tire Reef”.
Look for small white Terns hovering and diving over/near sandbars where Calibogue meets ocean for Spanish Mackeral, Ladyfish, Jacks, etc…
