Bowfishing...

I know this is a spear fishing forum but I was wondering if anyone here does any bowfishing? I will be down next weekend to shrimp and bowfish and have never bowfished in the salt water. I was wondering where I would be able to find some clear water? Anyone got any ideas?

Ronnie:

These are just opinions here as I used to bowfish in TX and have not here. Typically where the shrimping is best it’s salty water. The only thing I know to bowfish for would be flounder and Spot Tail bass unless you went up the rivers to less salty water for gar. I don’t know the legalities of shooting spot tails. We can gig them this time of year. What species would you like to target? Clarity won’t be a problem unless Isabel makes it a problem.

You might try bowfishing for Spades, if Isabel doesn’t put them down.

I think we bowfishermen have the same regulations as a spear fisherman on the spottails. Two per person per day though in a slot limit. I was told they opened up bonnet head sharks this year. What I am looking to shoot is some flounder and stingrays. Though I wouldn’t turn down a chance at a shark or a spottail.

I wish I could find some one interested in a combination trip, bowfishing and shrimping. Or just someone to go out riding around and show me around the area. The only place I have been was down in Mud Bay shrinping last season.

McKee what is a spade? Never heard of a fish called that.

First fish is a spade. Good luck.
