Boykin Spaniel to good home

With a heavy heart, were having to get rid of my 7 year old Boykin Spaniel. I figured I should post on here to see if anyone is interested. Maddux will be 8 on 10/10. He weighs 40 lbs abd has been a great dog. However, he has taken on the interest of “nipping” in the past several years. He has never drawn blood from anyone, but it is an issue because we have a 11 month old and were affraid that he could hurt our son. I think bottom line is that he is not getting exercised enough. He will swim or chase a tennis ball until he cant stand up. He used to dove hunt with me, but I have not been in years. The Boykin Spaniel Rescue is looking for a home for him as well, but figured I’d post to this group of outdoorsmen too. Email me if you have any interest. Thanks. Jmatthewsconstruction@gmail.com

Most dogs are very protective of young “family members”. When I was little my Mom couldn’t even spank me in front of our dog. It would confront her and defend me, never nipped though. At the time, atleast to me, that dog was worth it’s weight in gold. I hope you find a good home for Maddux.
I’ll mention Maddux today to a friend who recently lost a good dog to old age. He might be interested. He has some land, older kids, a very large wooded yard, big doghouse and already has the electric underground fencing. His wife is out of town and will need to be consulted. You know how it is with " home management".
I’ll post again if he can get Maddux. Please let me know if you find him a home.

Sorry to hear that. We had to get rid of our 6 year old black lab for the same thing. Our daughter was about 1.5 when the JoeJoe got aggressive towards her. SO hard to give them up, but the doctors said the dog does not know he is not in charge.

Hoping he gets a good home. We had a malamute when I was very young that we had to give away because, after I was born, he grew extremely protective of me. If someone came to the house he didn’t know, he’d either knock me over and literally “cover” me and growl, or he’d go after the guy. After he bit our landlord, we knew we had to get rid of him.

Thanks guys. Its not the easiest decision we’ve ever had to make. He’s a good dog and would make someone a great pet. He just doesn’t understand that a little nip could do some damage to 1yr old skin and muscle. He wouldn’t ever do anything intentionally to hurt anyone, it just seems to be his defense mechanism.
