Broad-No Cobia

Fished Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning at the bridge, but we did not catch a cobia. In fact, up to 16 boats were in view and we saw only two sharks caught. We used both eels and greenies to no avail.

Returned to Charleston and immediately was shown photo of 88# fish caught that morning. Plus three cobia over 60# had been weighed in past few days. We could have saved four hours of driving but then that is fishing…I look at it this way. We can drive to. Beaufort quicker and much easier and safer, than running offshore to fish the. Gulf Stream, as I did for so many years.

Dang…Not the report you want to read when we are going to fish the broad tomorrow. If this weather calms a bit we may head out to the Betsy Ross.

I had heard that the full moon was prime time, which would have been yesterday. Monday was a little snotty late in the day but Tuesday was perfect. Who knows what fish will do? But the real fun is the process not catching…

The bridge ain’t where I’d be fishing  There are a lot better places than the bridge. I reckon everybody fishes there because it’s easy to find:smiley: About the only time I fish there is on very hot days when the fish are looking for shade. A lot more fish are caught on the sandbar rips.

Probably has a lot less to do with where you are fishing and a lot more to do with the number of fish that have been taken out of that river over the past years.

Larry quit giving away all of the secrets! In all seriousness fish swim in water. Plain and simple. There are better locations than others but to get from the sound to the bridge and above the bridge the Cobia swim the entire river. There are better feeding zones like the rips for instance but a lot of it is being in the right place and the right time with the right bait. I’ve fished the river from low to high back to low pouring chum the entire time without a knock down. Joe blow and his wife anchor up 100 yards from the rip with no chum and everyone is thinking what is this moron doing and he catches two within the first hour he’s there. Go figure! I’ve been out there and fished greenies, whiting, squid, crabs. The boat next to me had menhaden caught 1 and I didn’t. Go figure! I really hope ^ Mark is wrong about the numbers but I’m really not so sure… Good luck fellas!

We fished the bridge heavy the last few years, hooked up on 5 on one day, caught 4. People around were like WTF? Fished the five following days, didn’t hardly get a bite. We’ve caught a fish or two here or there away from the bridge, but never had the action like that one day last year. Lucky, good spot, whatever, glad it happened. Maybe it’s my chum? The biggest prob with the bridge is fishing sooo close to others. Manageable on the weekdays. I’ll be there all this week. Good luck to those of you who try.

Can I borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo.

I had to attend a funeral for my wife’s grandmother and missed the full moon. In my opinion, the full moon in May is the day. I almost skipped out on the funeral, but knew better, lol. Mark your calendar for next year’s full moon in May and the two days before it. For what it’s worth, the New Moon ain’t too shabby either,.
