Long time lurker/student of this site. First post. Mercy please! Left Hampton at 0610 this morning w/ clear skies. Ran into thick fog about Lobeco. Jo’s @ 0710 - got MM’s. BRB Landing @ 7:50. Smaller than normal cobia fleet in place at the bridge. Beautiful River, beautiful morning. Life’s good! 1st drop @ a CM on MI tide, 78* WT, partly clear skies, fair to middling water clarity, calm winds, slick river, 1/4 oz. jighead/green speckled curly tail (lure of the day) on 10# stren worked slowly. Four fishing = fair amount of bait activity, no birds. Several on/gone, none in boat. 2nd drop also a CM, better luck. One 15" trout & several shorts. Lotsa bites, but won’t hold on (flounder)? 3rd drop = a grass island ~ 3 ft shark on rattlecork/MM up in the grass = good pull for about 4 seconds, then gone. 4th drop a favorite grass point on HI tide. Saw a school of Spanish on the way. Perfect conditions w/ calm, slick, clearer water, HI tide, & bait activity - but no birds, no fish. Persistence! 5th drop a Grassy edge at the back of a flat on HHI = nothing. 6th = detach rip on a sharp inside bend in a big creek on the last of the incoming = nothing. Back to first 2 drops (CM’s) from this morning. Breeze picking up. Light chop. Clouds building. WT 79*. MM’s on jighead’s on bottom on HO tide right in creek mouth. Flounder “marked” my MM, not enough patience to let him eat. A buddy (his first saltwater trip) caught a “long tail flounder” (stingray). He had a short trout and bluefish earlier and got a kick out of each! Cloud coming, sunburn, sore back = goin’ home. Lots of Cobe sightcasters on the Broad today. Big school of pogy’s just off the landing. Lotsa smiles. Good fellowship. Fun day on my favorite Broad River!
That my, my friend, is fishing.
All things being equal, I would rather be on the water.

Ge
Thanks ya’ll. I have learned a ton from this site. Just trying to give back a little without being too specific. My log has all the details. Hopefully, more productive reports will follow.

What is CM? Probably obvious but I guess I’m missing it…

Creek mouth?

I think I figured out some of the abbreviations:
CM: creek mouth
WT: water temp
MM: mud minnow
MI: middle incoming?
HO: high outgoing?
BRB Landing: Broad River Bridge?
13ft Whaler with 25hp Johnson
If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
Sorry for all the abbrev’s. I’ve used them for yrs.
