broad was rough today...

first time out on my new to me boat… 21’ triumph… i would give you water temp, tide times and what not but my Garmin decided not to work today…

all i do know is the wind was good and strong and the waves were about 2-4 and choppy choppy choppy… i think the boat did good for the conditions which is a bonus…

had cut bait, shrimp and some squid… both sharks were caught on cut bait on the bottom…

I was trying to figure out why you were going out under those conditions. Now I see - it was “new boat fever”! Glad ya’ll had a safe day. I have a Garmin 740S that is really tricky to “crank up”. You have to have just the right touch on the power button.

Garmin is a 541S that worked great on the test drive out… i haven’t had a chance to trouble shoot yet…

Broad River had to be rough today [:0] 25-30 in Broad against the tide is nowhere I want to be, I’ll wait for another day, or stay in the creeks

The trick on my 740S is to press and hold the power button for just a second or 2 until you hear a beep and then immediately release the power button. Pressing and releasing the button quickly = won’t crank up. Holding too long after the beep = shuts it back off. Your problem may be completely different, but it took me a while to figure out the power button technique.

also if its rough the banging can loosen up the connector plug, I have had that happen many times…

Also check to see if a typical Garmin inline glass fuse was installed. Often, rough conditions put stress on the wiring, causing the wires going into one or both ends of the spring loaded fuse holder to have enough tension to separate the fuse contacts from the fuse, breaking the circuit.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ll have time tonight to test and check everything…

i have the 541S too. Probably the power button trick. I frustrated the heck out of me until i got the right touch, and now i don’t think about it. Just release as soon as you hear the beep.

All things being equal, I would rather be on the water.

Blood on the boat!! (fish blood that is)
That’s a good thing
